Gold Transitional Ceiling & Gold Leafed "marble veins" in Center Red Ceiling
Laguna Niguel, CA
Interior Designer, Shan Luvisa of Obvious Flair www.obviousflair.com
Shan asked for an elegant red faux finish to coordinate with her chosen fabrics in this room. She also wanted a very subtle veined effect on the center portion of the red ceiling, and glazed to match the rest of the red. It was a lovely effect; it's elegance lasts and lasts. Our client absolutely loved her soft suede-like walls. This room was designed in 2001 - back in the day of old-school film in cameras! The date stamp showed these finishes were performed in 2001. I have seen this circumstance over and over..... A well-designed & exceptionally performed faux finish will last for MANY years. A well-chosen finish is rarely tiring. Our clients tend to grow into them; they fall in love with these great finishes each time they enter an area.
A Story:
A few years ago, I entered a home in a prominent area in Newport Beach called One Ford Road in which we had added extensive finishes throughout for the original owner when the home was newly built. We were called in to perform touchups by this home's current and fourth owner, readying the house to put it on the market for Owner #5! All of our faux finishes throughout were still intact, and in fact were key selling points to the home; which had one the Gold Award for the ASID/OC Home Under 3,500 square feet designed by the late Stephen L. Stein of SLS Designs in 2001.
Another Story:
Interior Art was called into see a new home in Coto de Caza, CA years ago; our new client a busy real estate agent in the area. He asked me what I could do to their new home to create a dazzling space for his wife. He made it his point to let me know of his promise to his wife that he would make it extraordinarily comfortable for her. My client was in the dog house, bigtime. He sheepishly explained he needed to save his marriage by vowing to his wife he'd NEVER make her move again. She was tired of moving; this home was the 11th house they'd lived in within the past 10 years! We suggested approximately $30,000 in artistic/faux finishes. They said yes to all of it, "Whatever Julie wants", my client said. Once we completed adding artistic & faux details throughout, both of my clients were extraordinarily happy - their comments, "Everything is so beautiful; it feels so comfortable. You've made our house into a home."
To my surprise; within the year, my client called me and excitedly told me, "Julie is about to kill me! I just sold the house!"
My client had one of HIS clients walk through his home. "Jackie, she gave me an offer I couldn't refuse! I just set a record! I sold my house for the highest $$ amount per square foot in Coto de Caza! She saw the house, went wild for it, turned to me and said, 'whatever it costs, I don't care, I HAVE to have this house' ." His buyer felt an emotional pull towards the house. "It was because of your finishes, Jackie". I was thrilled to hear his excitement, and afraid for his wife. My client did, indeed find a beautiful, much bigger home for his wife in another part of Coto de Caza, which presented us with a whole new canvas to play with throughout.
I've witnessed countless of these stories firsthand. Interior Art's finishes which we performed well over 10 years ago are still fresh and remain an elegant addition to a beautiful space. The longevity of these finishes is a consideration on choosing your wall colors/artistic details. The upgrades will pay off, both emotionally and in equity.

Summer will soon be knocking at your door, begging you to come outside and spend time in its warm sunshine. The nicer weather means hosting family barbecues and parties, kicking back in the shade with a good book or floating around in the pool, allowing the stresses of everyday life to slowly drift away.
Outdoor Seating - Sectional
Is your back yard ready for all of the summertime fun? More specifically, take a good look at your patio furniture. Perhaps certain pieces should be spruced up or repurposed, while others may need to be replaced altogether.
Whether you’re dealing with a big or small project, don’t let the details intimidate you. With the right preparation and planning, you can transform your outdoor living space into an oasis where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.
Choose Your Aesthetic
Before you dive into an outdoor renovation and end up feeling like you’re drowning in all of the possibilities and decisions, take some time to think about how you envision your new space. How will you be using it? Do you spend more time entertaining or relaxing? What kind of seating do you need? Does it need to be kid- and/or pet-friendly? Do you prefer clean, modern lines or playful, colorful textures? Do you like harder surfaces, such as wood, or softer ones, like cushions?
Addressing these questions should help you narrow down the outdoor seating options that work best for your family.
Get Trendy
Once you’ve honed in on your desired aesthetic, start putting your ideas into action. Looking at this year’s trends can help.
For instance, the biggest trend of 2017 is bringing the indoor look outdoors. This theme incorporates plush sofas made from durable fabrics, side tables, ottomans, vibrant-colored throw pillows and outdoor rugs. To protect their outdoor living room, many homeowners also opt for a patio cover, which can be either a hard cover or soft awning.
Outdoor Seating - Benches
This year’s outdoor furniture also blends wood-grain finishes with worn surface textures and pairs neutral colors with pastels for a washed-out effect. When it comes to dining tables and chairs, classic wrought-iron tea garden furniture is always in style.
Go Green
Adding a new chair or replacing an entire outdoor living room can be a great opportunity to bring in materials that look great and are also good for the environment. You can make your own (try these ideas from WooHome) or purchase eco-friendly furniture from shops such as Breezesta and Viesso, which offer “green” seating options in a variety of styles and colors.
Create A Warm Front
While you’ll probably focus on furnishing your back yard, don’t forget to pay some attention to the front of your house, too. Curb appeal counts – it’s the first thing your friends and neighbors see, so making a good impression is a must.
Be sure to keep the area clean. As for décor, don’t over-decorate. A simple rocking chair or swing can generate a warm, welcoming feeling for all.
Stay On Budget
Outdoor Seating - Wicker
Whether money is no object or you follow a strict budget, options are available for every wallet.
High-end luxury furniture sites such as Frontgate, offer posh designer couches, mosaic dining tables, cushioned hammocks and even a hanging daybed.
However, affordable, luxurious-looking options are available, too — especially if you’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do some of the work yourself. Pinterest provides countless design inspirations for do-it-yourselfers, such as repurposing an old tire into a cushioned seat and building a lawn chair using wood pallets, among others.
Plus, check out money-saving suggestions from Better Homes and Gardens’ Budget-Friendly Ideas for Outdoor Rooms, DIY Network’s 10 Outdoor Rooms on a Budget and HGTV’s 25 Budget-Friendly Ideas for Small Outdoor Spaces.
Remember, you don’t have to do everything at once. Concentrate on small areas and budget your time and money for the items that will best fit each space.

After a devastating fire destroyed this Woodinville, Washington home, the homeowners faced the unimaginable task of rebuilding their lives and their house from the ground up. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the home itself could not be saved.
Cutuli Homes had the privilege of walking alongside the homeowners through the rebuilding process—helping transform a heartbreaking loss into an opportunity to create a completely new home designed for the way they wanted to live today.
Rather than simply recreate the dated house that had been lost, the homeowners chose to move forward. Working closely together, we created a home that feels modern, elegant, warm and distinctly Pacific Northwest—a place that acknowledges what came before while giving the family something beautiful to come home to again.
The new open-concept kitchen and family room became the heart of the rebuilt home. A dramatic vaulted ceiling with dark-stained wood beams brings warmth and architectural definition to the light-filled space. The kitchen combines crisp white custom cabinetry, black accents, stainless-steel appliances, dark countertops, a generous contrasting island and contemporary pendant lighting. Large windows bring the surrounding Woodinville landscape into the home and fill the kitchen with natural light.
The adjoining family room continues the home's understated Northwest aesthetic. A beautifully detailed fireplace creates a natural focal point, while the vaulted ceiling and exposed beams give the room a sense of scale without sacrificing warmth. The open relationship between the kitchen and living spaces was designed for everyday family life as well as entertaining.
The bathrooms were given the same careful attention to craftsmanship and materials. Custom shaker-style cabinetry, stone countertops, patterned tile, soft gray finishes, oversized mirrors, black hardware and beautifully tiled tub and shower surrounds create spaces that feel sophisticated yet comfortable. Clean lines and a restrained palette give the bathrooms a quiet, spa-like quality that complements the rest of the home.
Throughout the rebuilding process, our goal went far beyond constructing a new house. Losing a home to fire is deeply personal, and rebuilding requires countless decisions at a time when homeowners are already navigating an extraordinarily difficult experience. Cutuli Homes worked closely with the family throughout the process, helping guide the construction and turn their ideas for a fresh beginning into a home that could once again feel like theirs.
The finished residence is not simply a replacement for what was lost. It represents a new chapter: a dated home transformed into a thoughtfully designed custom residence filled with light, craftsmanship and warmth.
From ashes came an opportunity to create something beautiful—and, we hope, a little joy after tragedy.
For more than 30 years, Cutuli Homes has built and remodeled custom homes throughout Woodinville, Seattle, the Eastside, King County, Snohomish County and the greater Puget Sound region, specializing in highly personalized residential construction, major renovations and custom craftsmanshi

Bathrooms are no longer just functional spaces; they’re mini sanctuaries where we unwind, reset, and start or end the day. One of the biggest trends driving modern bathroom design is the move towards open, spacious layouts – and at the centre of that look is the wet room shower screen.
At BathroomNation, we’ve helped countless homeowners transform traditional bathrooms into sleek, practical wet rooms using high-quality wet room shower screens. In this blog, we’ll explain what a wet room shower screen is, why it’s such a smart choice, how to plan and style it, and what to look for when choosing the perfect one for your home.
What Is a Wet Room Shower Screen?
A wet room shower screen is a fixed or semi-fixed glass panel designed to separate your shower area from the rest of the bathroom floor, without enclosing it like a traditional cubicle. Instead of a full tray and door, you have:
- A level or gently sloped floor (often fully tiled)
- A walk-in, open shower space
- One or more glass panels providing splash protection
- Small bathrooms that feel cramped
- Rooms with limited or no natural light
- Long, narrow spaces where every inch counts
- Ideal for people with limited mobility
- Safer for older users and children
- More comfortable for everyday use
- Almost invisible glass boundaries
- Minimal metal hardware and framing
- A seamless link between shower and non-shower areas
- Quick to wipe down after a shower
- Simple to clean with standard glass cleaner
- Less prone to discoloured seals and hard-to-reach dirt
- The shower head is positioned sensibly to minimise overspray
- Your bathroom is medium or large in size
- You want an ultra‑open, walk‑in feel
- Extends coverage
- Helps keep more water inside the shower area
- Still keeps the openness of a walk‑in design
- Increase the effective width of protection during showering
- Fold the panel away slightly when not in use to open up the space
- 8mm toughened safety glass as standard
- 10mm toughened glass for an even more solid, premium feel
- Prevent water spots and mineral build-up
- Make daily and weekly cleaning quicker
- Keep your wet room shower screen looking clear and new for longer
- Taller screens (often 1900mm or more) provide better splash control
- Various widths let you create both compact and expansive walk-in areas
- Enhance rigidity and safety
- Are typically mounted at the top, near the ceiling or wall
- Can be designed in finishes that match your brassware (chrome, black, brass, etc.)
- Chrome
- Brushed nickel
- Matt black
- Brushed brass or gold tone
- Where the shower head will be placed (ceiling, wall‑mounted, or both)
- How water will naturally fall and drain
- How much splash you’re comfortable with elsewhere in the room
- The floor needs a gentle, even fall towards the drain
- You can use a central drain or linear (channel) drain
- Waterproofing (tanking) is essential beneath tiles or flooring
- Catch most of the spray from your shower head
- Shield the main walkway and dry areas
- Clear, frameless-style glass panel
- Large-format light grey or stone‑effect tiles
- Wall‑mounted rainfall shower head with matching controls
- Floating vanity and wall-hung toilet
- Wet room shower screen with black profile and support bar
- Concrete or stone-look tiles on floor and walls
- Black rainfall shower and matching mixer valve
- Simple timber stool or bench for warmth
- Ultra-clear glass wet room shower screen
- Natural stone or stone‑effect tiles in warm tones
- Brushed brass shower fittings
- Niche shelving built into the wall for toiletries
- Open, walk-in design
- Easier access, especially for mobility needs
- More airy look, less visual clutter
- Simpler to clean (fewer frames and corners)
- Fully enclosed, more contained water
- Usually involves a tray and door
- Can feel more “boxed in” in smaller rooms
