Our client wanted a rustic, yet modern feel. Our Designer worked with the existing cabinets and did a Shaker-style door/drawer front with a combination of full overlay and inset to bring the existing cabinets up to this modern clean look. The contrasting open shelves in a seemingly unfinished wood, coupled with the Great Oregon Oak vinyl wood plank flooring (by Republic) , the reclaimed fence boards dry-brushed with KM 23 Swiss Coffee, the Jeffrey Court Gloss Mountain Mist subway tile back splash, the Dekton Trilium island countertop, and the appliances and modern lighting fixtures, give this kitchen the rustic-modern look our client was seeking. Note: our Designer also re-utilized the clients existing Corian countertop.

This subtle mix of charcoal and black tones takes its inspiration from the rugged surface finish of a real sealed slate. It looks particularly effective when laid on an angle and coupled with one of our light or metallic strips.

Our team of Austin architects transformed a 1950s home into a mid-century modern retreat for this renovation and addition project. The retired couple who owns the house came to us seeking a design that would bring in natural light and accommodate their many hobbies while offering a modern and streamlined design. The original structure featured an awkward floor plan of choppy spaces divided by various step-downs and a central living area that felt dark and closed off from the outside. Our main goal was to bring in natural light and take advantage of the property’s fantastic backyard views of a peaceful creek. We raised interior floors to the same level, eliminating sunken rooms and step-downs to allow for a more open, free-flowing floor plan. To increase natural light, we changed the traditional hip roofline to a more modern single slope with clerestory windows that take advantage of treetop views. Additionally, we added all new windows strategically positioned to frame views of the backyard. A new open-concept kitchen and living area occupy the central home where previously underutilized rooms once sat. The kitchen features an oversized island, quartzite counters, and upper glass cabinets that mirror the clerestory windows of the room. Large sliding doors spill out to a new covered and raised deck that overlooks Shoal Creek and new backyard amenities, like a bocce ball court and paved walkways. Finally, we finished the home's exterior with durable and low-maintenance cement plank siding and a metal roof in a palette of neutral grays and whites. A bright red door creates a warm welcome to this newly renovated Austin home.

2010 CAPTIAL COTY, HONORABLE MENTION AWARD WINNER, RESIDENTIAL The owners of this single family home were seeking a more colorful, contemporary kitchen style. Other goals for the renovation included having larger appliances, better traffic flow, better lighting and other updated amenities. To help the couple achieve their goals, the design team at Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes relocated all the electrical and plumbing from the bulk heads to create additional cabinet space. Then, they opened up the bearing wall between the family room and kitchen using structural beams and brought plumbing for a wall mounted faucet and a vessel sink for the wet bar. A new pantry replaced the old doorway to the dining room. All of the new appliances were relocated to the wall between the kitchen and dining room that was previously blank. It now houses a new 36” refrigerator and 36” freezer, double ovens, and additional cabinets. A central island was installed to accommodate a large cooktop. The design team then suggested double stack upper cabinetry that contains stainless steel glass door cabinets in upper part with a cobalt blue high-gloss lacquer on the lower part. Use of complementary exotic granite to tie in stainless steel appliances and color of the cabinets is one of the nice features of this job. The entire kitchen and leading hallway to the front foyer was filled in with very contemporary metallic porcelain tiles. Use of LED lighting, pendant lights and creative paint were just of few of the finishing touches.
