This expansive Victorian had tremendous historic charm but hadn’t seen a kitchen renovation since the 1950s. The homeowners wanted to take advantage of their views of the backyard and raised the roof and pushed the kitchen into the back of the house, where expansive windows could allow southern light into the kitchen all day. A warm historic gray/beige was chosen for the cabinetry, which was contrasted with character oak cabinetry on the appliance wall and bar in a modern chevron detail. The large granite island countertop creates a dedicated space for food preparation as well as for baking. Custom pull-out drawers were incorporated into the island as a place for laptop storage. A unique backsplash above the range was designed with 3” x 6” field tile, outlined by a liner bar, to draw the eyes attention to the custom Grabill hood.

Custom steel shelves are cantilevered from a grey lacquered millwork wall. All of the computer peripherals are stored inside the white oak cabinets. A cable management system and integrated power inside the cabinet and on the desk top keep the surfaces clear or clutter.
