Design:
When our client and her daughter purchased this Boulder home on Bluff Street, they were still living on the East Coast, planning a major life transition from afar. The home had great bones and a layout that largely worked for them, but the finishes didn’t reflect their style, and the kitchen felt tight and underutilized.
They wanted this new house to feel like home the moment they arrived in Colorado.
From the beginning, collaboration was key. As part of this Boulder home remodel, we coordinated closely around their travel schedule, maximizing every visit to Boulder so they could see materials, review selections, and experience the design decisions in person. Those in-person moments helped build clarity and momentum, ensuring the home felt personal and intentional.
While the overall spatial layout remained intact, we made strategic changes where it mattered most. The kitchen was thoughtfully reconfigured, and by relocating the washer and dryer upstairs, we unlocked valuable square footage. That shift allowed us to introduce a dedicated pantry and create a more functional, open kitchen designed for gathering.
Equally important was their love of outdoor living. We approached the deck and patio areas not as afterthoughts, but as extensions of the interior: spaces meant to be lived in daily.
Build:
The change was both subtle and significant. Reworking the kitchen layout solved the functional challenges, creating better flow, more storage, and a sense of ease in the heart of the home. The added pantry brought organization and breathing room, while the updated finishes throughout the interior aligned the space with the client’s aesthetic: warm, welcoming, and refined.
To strengthen the connection between indoors and outdoors, we expanded windows and installed large sliding glass doors. Natural light now pours into the main living areas, and the transition to the deck feels seamless.
Outside, the patio and deck were optimized for true Colorado living, ideal for morning coffee, evening dinners, and time spent with family under Boulder’s open skies.
The result is a thoughtfully executed Boulder home remodel that balances function and feeling. And while this project is rooted in Boulder, our experience allows us to bring the same level of collaboration and craftsmanship to homeowners across the Front Range.
This isn’t just a refreshed house; it’s a home designed for a new chapter.

This kitchen with full height backsplash in Gaston came together in Calacatta Lilly, an engineered quartz from AG Stones that gives you that bright white background with soft gray and gold veining moving through it.
We used the same stone into the bathroom vanities too, so the whole house reads consistent without repeating the same room twice. Quartz like this is manufactured under controlled conditions, so the veining pattern is engineered to look natural while staying more predictable slab to slab than a lot of natural stone.
That consistency matters most in a kitchen, where the counters are doing the real work every day. Calacatta Lilly holds up to knives, hot pans, and the general chaos of cooking without needing much babying. It's non-porous, so there's no sealing schedule to keep track of, no worrying about a glass of wine sitting too long or lemon juice etching a ring into the surface. You wipe it down and move on with your life.
Getting the look right across a kitchen this size takes some care at the template stage. We're matching veining direction across the island, the perimeter, and working out where the seams fall so they land somewhere quiet, not right in your line of sight. With a manufactured stone like this, the pattern repeats in a way that actually helps us keep that continuity, but it still takes a careful eye to lay it out so the kitchen looks like one continuous piece rather than a handful of slabs pieced together.
In the bathroom, that same white and gray palette does something different. Vanities don't take the abuse a kitchen counter does, so the quartz there is more about keeping a clean, bright look day after day with almost zero maintenance. We finished both spaces with an eased edge, simple and clean, letting the stone itself carry the room instead of the edge detail.
Gaston sits right in that stretch of the Midlands where we do a lot of our work, and it's always good to get out there and put a stone like this into a house. Calacatta Lilly gives this kitchen and bath a bright, cohesive look that's going to hold up fine to daily life for a long time to come.

Having a space for their teenage kids to hang out after school, study and interact with Mom & Dad was at the top of the list for this remodel. The 1928 home, sits in a lovely Glen Ellyn neighborhood, near downtown and near all the action of the local high school and lake. It’s was a great house with great bones but the kitchen was in need of some TLC. The remodel project had been a long time coming, and since both the homeowners work from home, they had been nervous about disrupting their bustling daily schedules to get the project in motion.
Once we had a plan in place, we dug in and got to work. The first step was to remove a non-load bearing wall between the kitchen and dining room. We then reworked the space a bit, eliminating a redundant passage way to the hall, and reworking a closet to allow for a large galley style kitchen and small bar area open to the dining room. The new kitchen has a small peninsula for the family to have casual meals and for the kids to hang out after school. A window was eliminated to give more space for cabinetry and storage, and another window was made larger to allow for a grander view into the backyard.
We decided upon a layered approach to this space to provide character appropriate to the older home. White painted cabinetry provides a backdrop for interesting touches such as gray herringbone tile, a reeded farmhouse sink and bronze hardware and lighting. The bar has its own unique look featuring gray cabinetry with a patterned cement tile backsplash and walnut top. A bar fridge, glass cabinets and baskets for tucking away homework give this little multi-functional area loads of character. A miniature mudroom area was also added to the dining room so that the new space can be kept neat and tidy.
The stylish result looks both appropriate to the 1928 home and provides loads of functionality for this active family that can now take advantage of every square inch their home.
