A small residential, seaside property located on Saugatuck Island in Wesport was rebuilt after devastating damage by a hurricane. All that remained from the original property was the pool and pool terrace. The house was raised approximately 5 feet to meet new FEMA codes and rebuilt under the design team of the owner, a well-known interior designer. Barbara was part of the landscape architectural team that helped create a sense of place for the new house. The landscape design included the addition of new walls and steps to the front door, new custom fencing surrounding the pool, an outdoor shower, landscape lighting, a custom fountain in the back yard, a sandbox (used as a relief area for the dog) and all new plantings. She coordinating obtaining bids and then supervised installation of the project.

This Outdoor Living Patio project included installation of new patio area, pergola, front and side walkways, and lighting as per our design. Installed was approximately 530 square feet of patio area with a landing step area at the rear door. We used Techo-Bloc ‘Blu 60 Smooth’ pavers for the patio area as well as the front walkway. The existing Front and side walks were removed prior to the hardscape installation. Outdoor kitchen, fire pit, and step were all constructed with Techo-Bloc ‘Graphix’ wall stone. Fire pit and step capped with Techo-Bloc ‘Graphix’ Cap. The Outdoor kitchen is topped with a custom marble counter top. 38″ grill and 38″ double access door were installed in kitchen area. The Pergola is constructed using Western Red Cedar and stained to compliment the hardscaping. Low voltage LED lighting that was installed includes, under cap lighting on step and kitchen; up lights on trees (2 lights each); and a 150 watt transformer. Landscape beds and new plants were installed around the new patio area. The Landscaping included, mulching of new landscape beds, Repair, grade, and seeding damaged lawn areas as well as Trimming existing Hydrangea and Boxwoods. This Outdoor living patio area was installed in Lancaster, PA.

Lots of low growing 'Steppables' were used along the outside edges of the flagstones. Perennials like Monada, Sedums, Epimedium, Stachys, Alchemilla mollis, Rudbeckia, and Echinacea fill the center of the boulder beds. Butterflies, Hummingbirds, Bees and dragonflies are already making this there new home.

This elegant backyard is complemented by multiple water features surrounded by beautiful flower beds. We can't get enough of those outdoor fountains and the gazebos, plus the fire pit and outdoor kitchen with built-in BBQ! This is what a backyard retreat should look like, if you ask us.

Natural water features enhance your backyard and add a soothing sound that can also drown out unwanted noise.

Archadeck of Columbus received the Archadeck Design Excellence Award for this project.
The winning project is a combination hardscape, deck, pergola and fire pit project in the Ballantrae subdivision of Dublin, Ohio. The deck area is high-aesthetic and low-maintenance as it was built using composite decking from the TimberTech PRO Legacy Collection. Legacy Collection’s decking boards are capped on all four sides to provide complete protection against mold, mildew, moisture damage, stains, scratches and fading.

Located on Lake Champlain, this landscape installation provided stone steps and landings to give access to the water. It was designed to work within the existing mountain side. A permeable paver garage apron was installed to transition from the gravel drive. Clay bricks were used to resist damage from salt left on the car tires during the winter months.
