Doug and Chris already had a nice kitchen, but they wanted a spectacular kitchen. And unlike many clients that want something completely different, they wanted to expand upon what they already loved. The result was a beautiful and functional kitchen that reflected their love of Tuscan charm and organization.
Their original flooring and color scheme were to remain but everything else would be improved upon. The appliances were all upgraded and a microwave drawer, induction cooktop, and warming drawer were added. The island with its stunning wood top and custom painted cabinets became a focal point of the kitchen. It also echoed the color and style of the dining room furniture that Chris loved. Decorative moldings, carved legs, open shelves, a wine rack and staggered cabinetry were just a few of the added details. The crowning jewels were the see-through pendant lights, that Chris found, and the travertine splash with custom decorative niche for oils and accessories and the “sparkly” granite tops. What can’t be seen in the pictures is the re-shaped soffits (to match the cabinetry below), all the inner cabinet accessories and the wall that was removed making way for a wrap-around design at the bar.
Old world charm and finishes might have inspired this kitchen, but new age function and technology take this kitchen into the future with ease.

The wonderful thing about working with clients who have great taste and a house with good bones is you get to create a kitchen that feels like its always been there. When we were called to create a new kitchen space in this mid-century modern home in Middleton, we really were cognizant of the feel of the home. We didn’t want to create a kitchen that didn’t flow with the rest of the home and it was a home run. The house has a unique center island wall of cabinets as well as a wood ceiling that we embraced in the design. The kitchen back wall was created with a built in furniture look using wall of cabinets that feature a coffee bar, built in pantries and a long horizontal open display ledge. We found the perfect tile to use as a backdrop to the beautiful floating shelves that house the dishes and glasses. The cabinets are custom made and locally built using grain matched quarter sawn Douglas Fir. Douglas Fir was the perfect wood choice for this homes earthy natural feel and the contemporary minimal hardware really honors the design. The layout of the kitchen remained the same but the look is quite different. In addition to designing and project managing this kitchen remodel, we also refinished the existing wood floors, updated a small powder bathroom as well as designed, built and installed a new floating mantel in the family room.

JAC 140 - Twilight in Space by Jon Allen
The Jon Allen Collection is an exclusive, hand-selected group of my most personal work to date. Each piece is hand-painted on aluminum. My art itself and my chosen medium, aluminum, are blissfully married. You may not think of the word organic when you hear the word metal, but this is some of my most organic art and that’s simply because metal allows my work to achieve true sentience. Aluminum’s naturally reflective nature enables each color, shape, and stroke to reach its full potential. A new aspect of the painting will reveal itself to you as it basks in the light that surrounds, evades, or envelops it in that moment. When you see the piece from different angles, you will appreciate how vibrant, dynamic, and environmentally influenced these pieces are. What you may see and feel by morning is not what you’ll see or feel by dusk and in many ways, and as such I feel these pieces capture the ever-ebbing and complex nature of human emotion and perception.
Some of these pieces are truly abstract while others are modern takes on traditional landscapes, marine life, and portraits. I hope you enjoy them a fraction of how much I enjoyed creating them. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Number of Pieces: 1
Dimensions: 46" x 13" x 2" off the wall
Care & Cleaning: Clean with a soft cloth and plain soap & water
Other Features: Hardware is pre-installed for simple hanging and art will “float” 2” off the wall
