Vetter ArchitectsThe owners requested a Private Resort that catered to their love for entertaining friends and family, a place where 2 people would feel just as comfortable as 42. Located on the western edge of a Wisconsin lake, the site provides a range of natural ecosystems from forest to prairie to water, allowing the building to have a more complex relationship with the lake - not merely creating large unencumbered views in that direction. The gently sloping site to the lake is atypical in many ways to most lakeside lots - as its main trajectory is not directly to the lake views - allowing for focus to be pushed in other directions such as a courtyard and into a nearby forest.
The biggest challenge was accommodating the large scale gathering spaces, while not overwhelming the natural setting with a single massive structure. Our solution was found in breaking down the scale of the project into digestible pieces and organizing them in a Camp-like collection of elements:
- Main Lodge: Providing the proper entry to the Camp and a Mess Hall
- Bunk House: A communal sleeping area and social space.
- Party Barn: An entertainment facility that opens directly on to a swimming pool & outdoor room.
- Guest Cottages: A series of smaller guest quarters.
- Private Quarters: The owners private space that directly links to the Main Lodge.
These elements are joined by a series green roof connectors, that merge with the landscape and allow the out buildings to retain their own identity. This Camp feel was further magnified through the materiality - specifically the use of Doug Fir, creating a modern Northwoods setting that is warm and inviting. The use of local limestone and poured concrete walls ground the buildings to the sloping site and serve as a cradle for the wood volumes that rest gently on them. The connections between these materials provided an opportunity to add a delicate reading to the spaces and re-enforce the camp aesthetic.
The oscillation between large communal spaces and private, intimate zones is explored on the interior and in the outdoor rooms. From the large courtyard to the private balcony - accommodating a variety of opportunities to engage the landscape was at the heart of the concept.

Srote & Co Architects | Planners | InteriorsThis Tudor style custom home design exudes a distinct touch of heritage and is now nestled within the heart of Town and Country, Missouri. The client wanted a modern open floor plan layout for their family with the ability to entertain formally and informally. They also appreciate privacy and wanted to enjoy views of the rear yard and pool from different vantage points from within the home.
The shape of the house was designed to provide needed privacy for the family from neighboring homes, but also allows for an abundance of glass at the rear of the house; maintaining a connection between indoors and out. A combination of stone, brick and stucco completes the home’s exterior.
The kitchen and great room were designed to create an open yet warm invitation with cathedral ceiling and exposed beams. The living room is bright and clean with a coffered ceiling and fireplace eloquently situated between dual arched entries. This alluring room also steps out onto a courtyard, connecting the pool deck and covered porch.
The large covered porch has an eating area and lounge with TV to watch the game or to enjoy a relaxing fire from the outdoor fireplace. An outdoor bar / kitchen was placed at the far edge of the covered porch and provides a direct link to the pool and pool deck.
The home’s dining room was designed with a stone fireplace, large recessed wall niche and crown molding detail to add a feeling of warmth and serenity.
The master bedroom is a retreat from the main floor level and also has direct access to the pool and patio. A private study was also incorporated with a direct connection to the master bedroom suite.
Each secondary bedroom is a suite with walk in closets and private bathrooms. Over the living room, we placed the kids play room / hang-out space with TV.
The lower level has a 2500 bottle wine room, a guest bedroom suite, a bar / entertainment / game room area and an exercise room.

Nautilus ArchitectsThis waterfront home was conceived by the architects as a series of identically scaled, simply articulated gable-roofed elements linked by flat-roofed connectors. From the entrance driveway, the house appears almost as a village of individual granite residences. These two elements – gables and flat roofs – complement each other, establishing a dynamic of light and dark, smooth and rough, grounded and floating.
It was critical to the ultimate success of this building that it be well suited and connected to tits content so that it seems like it could not be anywhere else. The home was positioned to capture this view and, in a way, imbue it with power. We responded to this directive by incorporating large expanses of windows that allow one to literally look through the house from the front yard to the sailboats bobbing on the water at the rear.
BenjaminThese portable partition walls are constructed with acoustical ribbed fabric and heavy foam cores. Available in several stylish colors, the VersiPanel is a popular studio partition or office divider due to its superior sound-dampening capabilities and attractive looks. Unlike other partition walls, the VersiPael meets the floor directly from end to end, keeping sound confined. Constructed of multiple small panels, the VersiPanel may be arranged in a serpentine "S" shape, or add a couple optional VersiFoot accessories to create "C" or "L" shapes, which are often used for setting up recording or testing spaces.
The flexibility in arrangement options allows the VersiPanel to be used in a variety of applications, such as recording studios, offices, or classrooms. Tomecek Studio ArchitectureThe Shoshone residence is envisioned as a monumental limestone volume that will house an eclectic collection of art and sculpture. The project examines unique lighting conditions throughout the day by utilizing a series of curved light scoops to direct and filter the illumination. These light scoops vary in size and shape in order to materialize a distinct set of experiences throughout the residence. The project rises three stories connecting the ground level neighboring community gardens to the city-wide panorama from the roof deck above. The vertical circulation linking these moments is contained within the largest light scoop monitor.
Rolf Schroeder General Contractors, Inc.The exterior of the house was refreshed by removal of all the overgrown trees and shrubs which hide the beauty of this large brick farm house. We replaced all the rotted windows and doore with new modern wood windows and doors finished with custom Boral Millwork. To add some additional sun protection we incorporated a sun trellis over the rear wall of doors. A new Front Entry Porch was designed on the front of the home to create some dimension to the home as well as add sun and rain protection to the front entry of the home. The porch was finished in custom Boral Millwork, custom standing seam metal roof, and beautiful bluestone walkway.
Keystone Custom DecksWe don’t often do front porches but when we do they turn out like this! Spanning the face of the porch
adjacent to sections of Key-Link railing there are six strong stone columns that reach all the way to
ground to reinforce a sense of strength. On ether side of the steps is a sitting area affixed with a fan
overhead. This project is a wonderful way to start your day off; enjoying a cup of coffee and the morning
light.

Nautilus ArchitectsThis three-story building has a master suite occupying the entire third floor. The bed is centered on giant, bi-parting glass doors, and the rest of the wall is all glass as well. The proximity of the bed to the doors, and the balcony outside, create a sensation of being propelled out over the lake. On the first floor, the kitchen and living area (with associate Luigi enjoying the sun) is again linked to a large deck through bi-parting glass doors. Ipe is a common choice for decks, but here, the material flows directly inside, at the same level and using the same details, so deck and interior feel like one large space. Note too that the deck railings, constructed using thin, galvanized steel members, allow the eye to travel right through to the view beyond.
