For this kitchen and bath remodel in San Francisco's Cole Valley, our client wanted us to open the kitchen up to the living room and create a new modern feel for all of the remodeled areas. Opening the kitchen to the living area provided a structural challenge as the wall we had to remove was load-bearing and there was a separately owned condo on the floor below. Working closely with a structural engineer, we created a strategy to carry the weight to the exterior walls of the building. In order to do this we had to tear off the entire roof and rebuild it with new structural joists which could span from property line to property line. To achieve a dramatic daylighting effect, we created a slot skylight over the back wall of the kitchen with the beams running through the skylight. Cerulean blue, back-painted glass for the backsplash and a thick waterfall edge for the island add more distinctive touches to this kitchen design. In the master bath we created a sinuous counter edge which tracks its way to the floor to create a curb for the shower. Green tile imported from Morocco adds a pop of color in the shower and a custom built indirect LED lighting cove creates a glow of light around the mirror. Photography by Christopher Stark.

Wide angle view of completed stamped concrete patio, seating, and minimal landscaping. We demolished the existing rear deck, installed Trex landing and steps, stamped concrete patio, and landscaping. A Trex staircase was constructed using Trex Transcends, Spiced Rum color. A privacy lattice and fence was constructed from cedar and stained with the color stain selected by the client. We then installed approximately 445 square feet of concrete for a patio and stamped it to resemble the color variation of the three samples of stone veneer left at the residence. The blended stamp pattern is a "skin" designed to resemble the natural look of stone. Additional work included repairing and turf/grass damage resulting from the construction on site (may be seen in photographs as they were taken before new grass had grown), and select landscaping improvements around the patio.

Inspiration for a transitional home bar remodel in Raleigh

This project was an important renovation to an otherwise functional but basic kitchen. The clients, recently arrived from London, wanted a more modern aesthetic to match their tastes. By removing a section of the wall that had created a labyrinth effect, the new layout was a jewel box with optimal traverse that also accessed a view to the outdoors. The clients wanted a continuous, serene space; DEANE hid the appliances with paneled refrigeration and freezer columns, mirrored with a stacked, flush inset Miele beverage station and speed oven. Imperial Danby marble countertops and waterfall edge island are counter-balanced by a backsplash in Dynasty White Italian Carrara marble. The framed, inset cabinets with satin brass pulls and hardware are painted a pale grey for a cool effect and capped off with a customized, architectural 3-piece crown. Hector Finch pendants in antique brass with grey, handblown Murano glass compliment the custom, brushed stainless steel hood, with satin brass and polished nickel rivets.
