A cozy, inviting play alcove was designed as a dedicated retreat for children, visually defined by rich navy-blue walls that create a sense of intimacy within the larger open plan. Comfortable video game lounge chairs encourage gathering and downtime, while the custom window seat incorporates built-in drawers for concealed toy storage and everyday organization. Soft natural light filters through custom gauzy Roman shades, adding warmth, texture, and a relaxed atmosphere to the family-friendly space.

To improve storage and increase counter space near the range, the refrigerator was relocated in favor of a shallow pantry cabinet. Andrea Rugg Photography

Creating a workspace that feels both inviting and stylish was the goal behind this lounge transformation. A mix of contemporary and industrial influences brings character to the interior, where large windows let in natural light and provide a seamless outdoor connection. Soft leather seating and a statement blue sofa offer a balance of comfort and modern appeal, while the centerpiece—a reclaimed wood coffee table—adds rustic charm. Overhead, exposed ductwork complements the urban-inspired design, and carefully placed greenery introduces a refreshing contrast. Every detail, from the textured area rug to the ambient lighting, was chosen to foster a relaxed yet professional setting ideal for both collaboration and downtime.

It is the perfect companion for all your downtime moments with its multiple resting positions, including the famous «zero gravity» position (with the legs slightly above the heart) which is THE optimum relaxation position. Multi-position relaxation chair, including the 127° “zero gravity” position which promotes optimum breathing, a particularly good blood flow and perfect ergonomics for the back.

A challenging aspect of this project was the heating system. We installed Runtal hydronic radiators in place of the existing hot water/ fan convector system. The building didn’t have boiler local shutoffs and therefore would’ve required several building wide heat shutdowns. To avoid these shutdowns and cause further tension with the neighbors the team froze the water boiler pipes to install the local shutoffs without any downtime to the building heating system. Another challenge was having to use makeup air in the kitchen due to a large kitchen exhaust hood. The make up air was routed under the floor and then through a plenum behind the cooktop. In order to hide the air shaft we fabricated a custom, stainless steel cover to sit flush to the countertop and blend with the cooktop appliance.
