Inspiration for a timeless formal living room remodel in New York with a standard fireplace

We named this design the 'Insignia' as to reference the building in Seattle where the original table (and bench set) now reside. The concept for the 'Insignia' table was motivated by minimalist-modern design and inspiration that arose from an admiration for Nakashima-style trestle bases. With our traditional 'Mez Works' style, we used dimensional walnut with a steel stretcher through the center of the tabletop to trace our 'Zeeva' and ‘Martis’ series tables, and the steel is treated with a ‘black-magic patina’ and clear powder-coat finish for an industrial element. The leaf mechanisms are drop leaf supports that are solidly built, structurally stable and sturdy to eliminate sagging. They lock in place automatically when raised, and are simple and quick to release. This design is very versatile, and as shown in the photos the table can be purposed as use for a desk. While folded down, the drop leaf hides a charging outlet that is secured to the base directly under the tabletop, while power is integrated by feeding the cord through the base all the way out through the bottom to a fixed outlet in the floor. The ordered symmetry of the grand foyer conveys an overarching sense of simplicity. Murals surrounding the 32 foot-high dome depict allegories of the four elements: earth, wind, fire, and water. The curve of the sweeping stairway combines a solid mahogany handrail and hand wrought iron balusters accented with 18 K gold leaf. Column capitals and cornices are edged in 18 K gold leaf. Inset wall panels in silk add warmth. A Lalique Cactus table accented with a Lalique Angelique vase anchors the space. A seating area in the Kitchen offers guests a place to relax and enjoy a master Chef at work. The owner also uses it as a place to unwind at the end of the day. When open, the drop leaf table allows for extra dining space. The colorful accent pillows are custom made of hand painted fabric.

Expertly executed “rule-joints” connect the leaves to the top, table has a pleasing appearance with leaves up or folded down. Wood slides under leaves pull out to support leaf in up position, very sturdy design. Signed and dated by the cabinetmaker, finely finished. 20-1/2″ wide X 32″ long X 30″ high with the leaves down. 37″ wide X 32″ long X 30″ high with both leaves up. Table can be ordered with a painted base.
