Now that the man of the house is retired and spends more time in his Ladue, MO home office, he noticed the need for an updated bathroom, a better-organized closet, and he really wanted to open the shutters and let the light in, but he needed to protect the artwork from sun damage. It was time to refresh. After relocating the entry between the office and closet to gain more space in the bathroom, the original wood floors were uncovered and refinished. A seagrass cloth wallpaper gives the office a dignified, masculine air. Built-in shelving provides storage and display, making the office clutter-free and casually professional. The replacement windows have low-e glass to block UV rays, and louvered double-hung shutters further control lighting. Now that the sun can shine in, there’s relaxing views to the backyard. This contemporary conservatory is located just off of historic Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The stately home featured many classic exterior details and was located in the heart of the famous district, so Sunspace worked closely with the owners and their architect to design a space that would blend with the existing home and ultimately be approved for construction by the Cambridge Historical Commission. The project began with the removal of an old greenhouse structure which had outlived its usefulness. The removal of the greenhouse gave the owners the perfect opportunity substantially upgrade the space. Sunspace opened the wall between the conservatory and the existing home to allow natural light to penetrate the building. We used Marvin windows and doors to help create the look we needed for the exterior, thereby creating a seamless blend between the existing and new construction. The clients requested a space that would be comfortable year-round, so the use of energy efficient doors and windows as well as high performance roof glass was critically important. We chose a PPG Solar Ban 70 XL treatment and added Argon glass. The efficiency of the roof glass and the Marvin windows allowed us to provide an economical approach to the client’s heating and air conditioning needs. The final result saw the transformation of an outdated space and into a historically appropriate custom glass space which allows for beautiful, natural light to enter the home. The clients now use this space every day.

These wonderful homeowners contacted Castle in NEED of a new kitchen. The old kitchen was falling apart. After years of making it work, they finally decided to take the next steps, so they could love their home again. After seeing the home and discussing the family’s needs, we decided the best kitchen for them would include opening the kitchen up into the dining room for better work flow within the kitchen space. The homeowners had no idea their kitchen could feel so large without an addition! It was a joy to show them their homes potential. The new kitchen includes a balance of the existing homes finishes along with some more contemporary updates. New custom designed cabinetry, granite countertops, subway tile backsplash, new appliances, new lighting, new luxury vinyl Adura tile flooring, new millwork to match existing, and a new back door complete the kitchen. Castle’s favorite part of the kitchen are the Kashmir Pearl granite countertops. The granite has a splash of plum color that really draws your eye in when you look closely and matches nicely with the homes original dark millwork. The homeowners favorite feature was the floors! Luxury vinyl is a great alternative to a tile floor for a nice aesthetic that also isn’t so hard on your feet. The homeowners could not be happier with their new space.
