A subtle update gave this Toronto interior a new glamorous and feminine feel. Our aim was to make this space transitional and welcoming. Fresh paint, engineered flooring, custom closet doors, and updated lighting fixtures were the first step in transforming this older condo. Fresh and lighter colors help make this space transitional while accents of violets, warmer pinks and silvers add some playful tones! Project completed by Toronto interior design firm Camden Lane Interiors, which serves Toronto. Natural, calm, family-centered. This client knew what she wanted and just needed some assistance getting there. Susan helped her out with imagery and product research, a first floor furniture plan and several working meetings to nail down the built-in functionality and look in the dining-room-turned-office/family drop-zone. Cork floors installed throughout give the home a warm and eco-friendly foundation. Pine-cones, tree trunk cookies, plants and lots of unstained wood make the family's focus on nature clear. The result: a beautiful and light-filled but relaxed and practical family space. Carpenter/Contractor: Sam Dennis From the client: We hired Susan to assist with a downstairs remodel. She brings a personalization that feels like getting advice from a family member at the same time adding helpful details of her industry knowledge. Her flexibly in work style allows her to come with plans fully researched and developed or to advise, plan and draw on the spot. She has been willing to do as much as we needed or to let us roll with our own ideas and time frame and consult with her as needed.

Exterior forms are emphasized with glass and fiber-cement panels at the top level, soaring over and sheltering containers clad in tougher, leathery Corten Steel at the ground level. Exposed concrete walls and rock-filled gabion retaining was selected to anchor the partially day-lighted basement level and garages to the land. Materials were chosen to be low-maintenance, relatively inexpensive, and to contrast the volumes that express the interior spaces.

Close-up of this rich and artfully integrated colorful iridescent glass tile. Subtle and also eye-catching and light-catching, a stunning edging for the sun shelf and steps. Set into the custom black ceramic chip finish and echoing the curved design of the landscaping, this is a true beauty. Photo by Tim Schoon

The model Altea offers a wide range of possibilities with its different sized modules. It has a patented Soft-back system, which makes it very comfortable for everybody. The recliner option is electric and slides forward so it can be placed next to the wall. This sofa can come upholstered in a variety of colored and patterned fabrics or leather. The frame of the Altea is crafted from pine wood and MDF construction making it very durable. All Fama products use a webbing system for suspension and support instead of the old spring design that will sag over time. Attached to the bottom of the sofa are chrome-finished, metal, or black-finished wooden leg supports that allow the sofa to maintain its low profile look.
