After completing an interior remodel for this mid-century home in the South Salem hills, we revived the old, rundown backyard and transformed it into an outdoor living room that reflects the openness of the new interior living space. We tied the outside and inside together to create a cohesive connection between the two. The yard was spread out with multiple elevations and tiers, which we used to create “outdoor rooms” with separate seating, eating and gardening areas that flowed seamlessly from one to another. We installed a fire pit in the seating area; built-in pizza oven, wok and bar-b-que in the outdoor kitchen; and a soaking tub on the lower deck. The concrete dining table doubled as a ping-pong table and required a boom truck to lift the pieces over the house and into the backyard. The result is an outdoor sanctuary the homeowners can effortlessly enjoy year-round.

Truthfully we didn't think it would work either, who knew?

With a few gallons of paint, this kitchen was transformed. Initially the walls and cabinets were shades of yellow. First we painted the walls and brought in red accents and window valances. A year later, in preparation for the Kitchen & Garden Tour, we painted the cabinets, using the wall and tile colors for inspiration. Casement windows flank the 36" range below the stainless chimney hood. The backsplash is finished in 3"x6" gray subway tile to the ceiling and above the windows. The once baseboard heating gave way for "toekick space heaters" (see photo). The heaters are hydronic a the fan blows heated air only when it detects hot water within the loop. This was an old gazebo that we tour down and built a meditation room for my client. We put floor to ceiling windows on all sides so she could enjoy the beautiful new garden we created. It has a skylight to bring in natural light, and a mini split air conditioner when it is hot. The light fixture is amazing when lit. We put a small dry sauna in the corner and she can leave that and walk right into the new Jacuzzi we build.
