This home evokes a sensuous St. Barth lifestyle on Lake Michigan, designed for globetrotting clients who wanted a weekend sanctuary near their primary residence in Chicago. The project brief included open plan living for entertaining, a family lounge, and bedroom suites for houseguests. The first level is a glass rectangular volume that makes the second level appear to float over the dune and offers water views through the structure. Clad in Accoya, the upper level will gray with age and blend into the landscape. These two horizontal volumes are connected by a double-height glass entry space that reveals a floating staircase. A contemporary beach aesthetic unifies the interior through an edited palette of materials, including white oak millwork, large-format porcelain tile, and a range of warm whites. A courtyard with sculptural Ginkgo trees offers refuge from lake breezes. On the pool terrace, custom Cor-Ten planters overflow with Russian Sage, selected for graceful foliage that sways in the breeze and offers a relaxing herbal aroma.

Home office - contemporary home office idea in Los Angeles

The Manor Cove Residence was carefully edited to restore and respect its modern character from 1983. Over time the purity of the home’s design had been lost, and the floor plan was not up to date for current lifestyles. Careful attention was paid to create a harmonious vision for the architecture, interiors, and landscape of the project. A new color palette now graces the home inside and out for a seamless flow from interiors to the landscape creating a gallery-like atmosphere to showcase art, while large format windows crafted from Mahogany open the home with expansive views to the private landscape. The interior Millwork is crafted from the same wood adding warmth and sophistication. The original concrete floors were restored with an ebony stain which complements steel detailing along the homes’ exterior facades. Interiors: Carlton Edwards in collaboration w/ Greg Baudouin

In this home office, traditional Tudor backgrounds of oak paneled walls and plaster crown details mix with contemporary, clean-lined furniture to create a chic space perfect for both work and relaxation. Completed in ______ of ______ as part of a larger renovation, the backgrounds of this room were left relatively untouched. The paneled walls were toned down with the addition of several layers of dark stain and the plaster crown and ceiling were given a fresh coat of paint. In furnishing the space, pieces were selected for their restrained style and lack of embellishment. The clean lines and dark finish of the writing desk and credenza compliment the paneling; echoing the angular forms found throughout the room. Above the credenza, a large mirror with antique glass faintly mimics the grid formation of the walls and furniture. In the bay window, a custom settee in camel colored wool offers ample seating without overpowering the space. Window treatments of the same material offer balance though textural contrast. For lighting, streamline fixtures in satin nickel with leather accents were selected for their contemporary appeal. Edited and uncluttered, the room was left intentionally spare to create an atmosphere of tranquility. Among the few accessories, a grouping of vintage white pottery was selected for their sculptural beauty.

With no windows or natural light, we used a combination of artificial light, open space, and white walls to brighten this master bath remodel. Over the white, we layered a sophisticated palette of finishes that embrace color, pattern, and texture: 1) long hex accent tile in “lemongrass” gold from Walker Zanger (mounted vertically for a new take on mid-century aesthetics); 2) large format slate gray floor tile to ground the room; 3) textured 2X10 glossy white shower field tile (can’t resist touching it); 4) rich walnut wraps with heavy graining to define task areas; and 5) dirty blue accessories to provide contrast and interest.
