This couple in the La Verne Heights gated community contacted me when it was time to remodel their master bathroom. After years of debating whether or not they should, they decided it was time to treat themselves to a proper master bathroom. They requested a classic look and finishes that would stand the test of time. The “after” is a complete transformation. Custom cabinetry, made to look like furniture with crystal knobs, was crafted and topped off with a slab of Cambria Quartz. The flooring and shower are clad in marble, surrounded by frameless glass. The soaking tub is Victoria + Albert and framed with custom pleated panels with custom Roman shades beneath for privacy. Chrome fixtures and lighting were added for a touch of classic sparkle.

This primary suite renovation focused on creating two bathrooms that feel cohesive, calm, and timeless. Clean-lined vanities, soft neutral wall tones, and polished chrome fixtures keep the spaces feeling fresh and bright, while thoughtful material selections add depth and subtle contrast. The guest bathroom features a deep green vanity paired with a crisp white countertop and simple oval mirror for a refined yet approachable look. After undertaking a few minor updates over the years, these homeowners came to us ready to tear out their kitchen and start from scratch. The existing kitchen was large, but not laid out well for the everyday use it was getting. A bulky double fireplace in the center of the living space took up a lot of room and made the dining room feel disconnected from the kitchen, despite the substantial opening between the two. We removed the oversized wood burning fireplace and replaced it with a smaller gas one with shiplap above, creating a stylish featured piece. Meanwhile the kitchen was reimagined and reorganized into a functional space for a home chef that will work better for years to come. These homeowners’ main concern was to update the style and function, as well as having quality materials that would stand the test of time. They wanted updated, gray cabinets; but didn’t want to lose any of the warm feeling of their home. Together with our design team they chose a light, warm gray for the perimeter cabinets and a darker gray to make the island a focal piece. The warm, light colored quartz countertops blend with the lighter gray and contrast nicely with the island. The textured dark blue backsplash tile adds a fun and exciting pop of color without stealing attention from any of the other pieces. To further maintain the warmth, they chose a rich walnut flooring with bold grain patterns. When the homeowners fell in love with some contemporary brass colored light fixtures, they were nervous that they would compete with their stainless steel appliances and other silver toned pieces. By keeping all the lights in the same color family, we were able to achieve a look that feels intentional and modern. The corner 3-light pendant adds light and interest to the space. Not wanting to take up wall cabinet space with a bulky microwave, they opted for one built into a base cabinet. The other small appliances are neatly hidden away behind custom appliance garages. For the fireplace, we focused on a clean, bright look that would stand out and look beautiful without competing with the neighboring kitchen. A small powder bathroom was also reorganized to better utilize the potential storage space and add counter space for guests. The style of the kitchen cabinetry was incorporated into the bathroom as well as into the dining room, which featured glass front cabinets to display dishes and mementos. The redesigned space resulted in a warm and beautiful kitchen and dining area that will be enjoyed for years to come. The main floor living space now feels as cohesive as it was always meant to.

The Twin Peaks Passive House + ADU was designed and built to remain resilient in the face of natural disasters. Fortunately, the same great building strategies and design that provide resilience also provide a home that is incredibly comfortable and healthy while also visually stunning. This home’s journey began with a desire to design and build a house that meets the rigorous standards of Passive House. Before beginning the design/ construction process, the homeowners had already spent countless hours researching ways to minimize their global climate change footprint. As with any Passive House, a large portion of this research was focused on building envelope design and construction. The wall assembly is combination of six inch Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs) and 2x6 stick frame construction filled with blown in insulation. The roof assembly is a combination of twelve inch SIPs and 2x12 stick frame construction filled with batt insulation. The pairing of SIPs and traditional stick framing allowed for easy air sealing details and a continuous thermal break between the panels and the wall framing. Beyond the building envelope, a number of other high performance strategies were used in constructing this home and ADU such as: battery storage of solar energy, ground source heat pump technology, Heat Recovery Ventilation, LED lighting, and heat pump water heating technology. In addition to the time and energy spent on reaching Passivhaus Standards, thoughtful design and carefully chosen interior finishes coalesce at the Twin Peaks Passive House + ADU into stunning interiors with modern farmhouse appeal. The result is a graceful combination of innovation, durability, and aesthetics that will last for a century to come. Despite the requirements of adhering to some of the most rigorous environmental standards in construction today, the homeowners chose to certify both their main home and their ADU to Passive House Standards. From a meticulously designed building envelope that tested at 0.62 ACH50, to the extensive solar array/ battery bank combination that allows designated circuits to function, uninterrupted for at least 48 hours, the Twin Peaks Passive House has a long list of high performance features that contributed to the completion of this arduous certification process. The ADU was also designed and built with these high standards in mind. Both homes have the same wall and roof assembly ,an HRV, and a Passive House Certified window and doors package. While the main home includes a ground source heat pump that warms both the radiant floors and domestic hot water tank, the more compact ADU is heated with a mini-split ductless heat pump. The end result is a home and ADU built to last, both of which are a testament to owners’ commitment to lessen their impact on the environment.

We started by updating the flooring to a waterproof luxury vinyl that would withstand the test of time and look great doing it. Custom, Benjamin Moore painted cabinetry was then installed, followed by beautiful quartz countertops and backsplash and undercabinet lighting. This condo kitchen is definitely very beautiful!

The kitchen area underwent a remarkable transformation, with a complete gutting and strategic movement of walls to create a more open and inviting space. Enhancing the aesthetics of the space with blue cabinets that are complimented with a white quartz top. The bathroom renovation elegantly phased out the aged oak cabinets, introducing a striking dark brown stain beautifully complemented by a pristine white quartz top. The showers have been upgraded with timeless subway tiles, a design choice that stands the test of time. Every inch of flooring has been revamped, with sleek, wood-style tiles providing a fresh, modern look. Exceptionally, some areas received a plush carpet upgrade, for that extra touch of comfort.

Seems like the ‘80s weren’t all that long ago. Reminiscing about music from the period harkens me back to all kinds of good feelings. The era’s kitchen and bath design, however, causes me to repress a bit of vomit. The lack of creativity, coupled with a love of beige and cheap brass, still makes my skin crawl. Some builder must have purchased entire container ships of that tile. Enter this bath. The homeowners did their best to add color, but nothing could hide the elements so popular in the day. In attempting to provide something outside the norm (the shower tower), yet warm and inviting, (curved half-wall behind the curved freestanding tub; compressed ceilings above smaller items), and safe (large, curbless shower with door wide enough for future wheelchair), I endeavored to create a bath that would stand time’s test. It didn’t hurt that the clients, second-timers (see Modern Walnut Kitchen and Great Room) and a delight to work with, had strong opinions. The photos will be retaken soon (we didn’t stage the shoot), but they give an idea of the space.

After completing their son’s room, we decided to continue the designing in my client’s master bathroom in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Not only were the finishes completely overhauled, but the space plan was reconfigured too. They no longer wanted their soaking tub and requested a larger shower with a rain head and more counter top space and cabinetry. The couple wanted something that was not too trendy and desired a space that would look classic and stand the test of time. What better way to give them that than with marble, white cabinets and a chandelier to boot? This newly renovated master bath now features Cambria quartz counters, custom white cabinetry, marble flooring in a diamond pattern with mini-mosaic accents, a classic subway marble shower surround, frameless glass, new recessed and accent lighting, chrome fixtures, a coat of fresh grey paint on the walls and a few accessories to make the space feel complete.

This project in Southampton involved a full kitchen remodel, beginning with the removal of the existing kitchen and a complete reconfiguration of the space. From minor building works to final decoration, every stage was carefully managed to ensure a seamless transformation. The new kitchen features a contemporary shaker design that blends clean, modern lines with a warm, homely feel, making it ideal for a busy family lifestyle. A practical peninsula provides generous prep space and casual seating, creating a true hub of the home. Oak shelves with integrated LED lighting add depth and warmth to the design, while full-height cabinetry ensures every inch of space is maximised. Solid timber doors were chosen for their durability and quality, guaranteeing a kitchen that will stand the test of time. The result is a space that delivers both style and practicality, beautifully tailored to modern family living and designed to be enjoyed for years to come.

What is Americana in today's time? The classical American ranch home has withstood the test of time and saw many styles and many designs change it every decade or so. Today we present to you our take on modern time Americana. We enclosed the small front porch area to create an interior atrium/mud room with a built-in beach with shoes storage drawers and a door leading to the garage. As you walk in you will see the fireplace with its new stone facade and wooden mantel above. Notice the design is a semi-open floor plan. A floating wall (not connected to any other walls) divides the kitchen and the living room but is still open to be able to enjoy circular movement around the house when entertaining. The kitchen is a combination of sage color with Alder wood accent cabinets and island. some cool cabinets feature like hidden garage appliances with pull out bases. extra deep base cabinets and beautiful Dekton stone countertops. This stone is almost indestructible when it comes to kitchens. The 200sq addition at the back allowed us to enlarge the master bedroom and the old bathrooms where all aligned the extension allowed us to build an additional powder room as well. A good size walk-in closet was added as well with a new master bathroom service the enlarged master bedroom. The result is what we consider today’s Americana for the classical ranch homes.

This was a treat for me to return to my client's Sauvie Island home for the third project together. An update to her kitchen this time. She wanted to lighten the space, and create an uplifting and fresh feel - possibly with a light green cabinet color. I had this color custom mixed for her at Miller Paint. After several tests, this was the one, and she LOVED the final result. The backsplash was also a big hit, since it conveys the shape of a leaf, and has some interesting light reflective qualities. I was able to move the refrigerator to the other wall, and add new cabinetry, plus a pull out trash feature as a needed upgrade. The dark floors work well as a contrast to the lighter overall color of the space. The new induction stovetop was also on the wishlist, so we were able to achieve just the look and feel that she was hoping for.
