Initially, this 1800 square foot space was completely unfinished with concrete walls. The clients hoped to use this enormous space to fulfill a variety of functions. After the remodel this previously unfinished space contained a perfect entertaining area with a full bar, home theatre, and large living space; a full bathroom with an electrical warming towel warmers; a workout space somewhat separated from the rest of the basement; and a bedroom with a built in window seats and closets with custom shelving. The basement was trimmed out with columns and woodwork to match the existing woodwork in the home so that it appeared as if the remodel took place when the home was built.

For those so fortunate to have a property it is customary to have a boathouse to store your swimming or boating gear and equipment. Recently Parrett was selected to provide windows and doors for a new boathouse and replacement windows and doors for an existing home. The boathouse windows consisted of folding windows and doors allowing for opening the windows the complete 10 foot expanse. These same doors were backed by a full length horizontal pulled screen. The folding window system was set on the second level loft designed as an elevated viewing area of the lake. Mulled directly to the top of the folding window was a Napoleon shaped direct set. On the opposite side of the second level was a window system matching the shape of the lakeside window system. The upper mulled window was a duplicate of the window on the lake side however the window below consisted of four awning windows. Due to the awnings being elevated from the lower floor and not easily accessible the windows were set up with individual electronic motors for operation which can be operated by either a switch or a remote control. The system allows for operating all of the windows at once or individually. The windows were made out of solid mahogany to the interior and a high performance woodgrain aluminum clad to the exterior. The lower boathouse door is a four panel solid mahogany plank style folding door system with a horizontal pull screen. Greeting anyone entering the boathouse is a custom designed entry door which has a carved pattern to the exterior emulating an owl. The owl door was made out of solid white oak and bordered with a 10 inch wide flat casing with a 12 inch keystone and plinth blocks located on top. Parrett was proud to be part of this fun, picturesque and very functional project.

As bathroom designers, we realize that a neo-angle shower is a simple and minimalistic design option where space is a premium. The clipped corner creates an angled opening that allows easy access to the shower between other fixtures in the bathroom. This new shower has a curb using a combination of glass and tile for the walls. Taking advantage of every possible inch for the shower made an enormous difference in comfort while showering. A traditional shower head along with a multi-function hand-held shower head and a shampoo niche both save space and provide a relaxing showering experience. The custom 3/8″ thick glass shower enclosure with mitered corners provides a clean and seamless appearance. The vanity’s bead-board design in sage green compliments the unique veining and hues in the quartz countertop. Overall, the clients were ecstatic with their newly transformed bathroom and are eager to share it with friends and family. One friend in fact, exclaimed that the bathroom resembled one she had seen in a five star resort!

With an open and efficient arrangement of the great room, kitchen, and dining areas, a deluxe master suite well separated from the secondary bedrooms, optional office/study or 4th bedroom, huge laundry room, roomy screen porch with fireplace, skylit porch flooding the interior with natural light, and enormous bonus room over the garage, the Bluestone lives much larger than its square footage, and is the ideal family home. The home was designed to display the original owners rare art collection from around the world. It has a rare and captivating arts and craft style and a very open floor plan for its time. As such, it is superb for entertaining. In fact, the current owners have held many large benefits and functions here. All of the woodwork in the main part of the home is selected cypress, except the gourmet kitchen which is cherry. The main living areas that make up the center of the home (i.e., dining room, great room, game room or library) are separated by 5'6" high half partition walls capped with an 8" shelf around the side walls. All the partitions and side walls are wainscoted with 6.5" wood panels. The ceilings in these main rooms are wood-paneled with solid beams supported by column-formed posts. The Great Room is enormous and the focal point of the home. The space is grand and can accommodate multiple seating areas, plus a grand or baby grand piano, or even a billiards table. A portion of the ceiling is open and extends to the 2nd floor to a very unique coffered tent-style ceiling with stained glass window at its center. Another main feature in this room is the stone wood-burning fireplace flanked by two bench seats attached to a column. It is a wonderful place to sit and read or converse to the crackle of the fire. An intimate reading nook with built-in shelves on either side sits to the left of the fireplace. Left of that, a set of French doors leads to the front porch for seamless entertaining inside and out. At the opposite end of the great room is a large bayed seating area.

This project is a great example of how the details make all the difference in a space. This room began as a family den that had all the key elements needed for the space to function, a desk, a tv console and a brand new sofa. However, it felt unfinished and under appreciated. My client, Allison called upon me to pull the room together, unify the existing pieces and finish of the space. Adding the final layer of art, accessories, drapery and family photos, attractive storage and a collections of heirlooms brought style and personality to Allison's den.
