The BG winery was the subject of a renovation in order to improve for the needs of its visitors. The famous and delicious wine presentations and tastings are the main attractions at this fabulous place. Therefore, we placed the bar in front of the entrance to be directly seen when entering. As a decorative element it is featuring displays of soils. Because the groups of visitor vary in size, but also because the space is used as an exquisite breakfast area for the guests of the nearby inn, we came up with a new idea: The division of the space by a glass wall. Consequently, this results in an event space or a private dining room. The convertible approach adds flexibility and dynamic to the whole place. Furthermore, we enabled the large hallway of the winery going towards the restrooms to be used as a wardrobe for larger gatherings. Meanwhile, the additional room serves as a VIP lounge for only the finest guests. The design team took everything into consideration while preparing layouts, developing individual objects and finetuning details: clients’ needs, the nice location and the usage of the attractive space. We designed in detail all furniture elements, while using reclaimed wood from old wine barrels for table tops and accent walls. In this regard the winery as a location of joy and community feels and breathes authentic. The whole interior design is rustic with fine touches of modern, resulting in a suiting atmosphere. As for the color scheme, we proposed a pastel blue as a contrast to the reclaimed wood. Touches of color in the Patchwork tiles around the bar area and a mixture of hand-made lamps mix to roud up the rustic vibe. Our clients were relocating from the upper peninsula to the lower peninsula and wanted to design a retirement home on their Lake Michigan property. The topography of their lot allowed for a walk out basement which is practically unheard of with how close they are to the water. Their view is fantastic, and the goal was of course to take advantage of the view from all three levels. The positioning of the windows on the main and upper levels is such that you feel as if you are on a boat, water as far as the eye can see. They were striving for a Hamptons / Coastal, casual, architectural style. The finished product is just over 6,200 square feet and includes 2 master suites, 2 guest bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, sunroom, home bar, home gym, dedicated seasonal gear / equipment storage, table tennis game room, sauna, and bonus room above the attached garage. All the exterior finishes are low maintenance, vinyl, and composite materials to withstand the blowing sands from the Lake Michigan shoreline.

The folding window system was set on the second level loft designed as an elevated viewing area of the lake. Mulled directly to the top of the folding window was a Napoleon shaped direct set. On the opposite side of the second level was a window system matching the shape of the lakeside window system. The upper mulled window was a duplicate of the window on the lake side however the window below consisted of four awning windows. Due to the awnings being elevated from the lower floor and not easily accessible the windows were set up with individual electronic motors for operation which can be operated by either a switch or a remote control. The system allows for operating all of the windows at once or individually. The windows were made out of solid mahogany to the interior and a high performance woodgrain aluminum clad to the exterior. The lower boathouse door is a four panel solid mahogany plank style folding door system with a horizontal pull screen. Greeting anyone entering the boathouse is a custom designed entry door which has a carved pattern to the exterior emulating an owl. The owl door was made out of solid white oak and bordered with a 10 inch wide flat casing with a 12 inch keystone and plinth blocks located on top. One of the most transformative changes in this bathroom renovation was the introduction of a transom window where previously there had been no natural light. Positioned intentionally high within the room, the window allows sunlight to enter while maintaining privacy. Its placement also creates a peaceful connection to the outdoors, framing views of the surrounding trees without compromising functionality. Designed as a shared bathroom for two children, the space balances beauty with everyday practicality. Two individual shower niches give each child dedicated storage, helping the bathing area remain organized and personalized. Tile lines were meticulously aligned throughout, with refined brass Schluter trim framing the niches and elevating the overall detailing. Large-format 24-by-48-inch porcelain tiles clad the walls, creating an expansive, stone-like appearance with minimal grout lines. Taking advantage of the nine-foot ceilings, four full horizontal courses were carefully planned to maintain visual balance, minimize unnecessary cuts and reinforce the room’s clean architectural lines. To soften the scale of the large-format tile and introduce pattern, a custom mosaic detail was added along the base of the walls as a modern interpretation of a traditional baseboard. Crown moulding completes the ceiling line, emphasizing the room’s height and giving the tiled walls a tailored architectural finish. Even the bathtub skirt was paneled to feel integrated and furniture-like. Warm brass fixtures add richness against the soft stone-inspired palette, resulting in a timeless and sophisticated bathroom designed to function beautifully for everyday family life.
