In this recent project, we set out to create a space that honored classic design principles while thoughtfully adapting to the realities of modern life—especially in a home shared with two large, beloved dogs. The foundation of the room begins with color. We selected Sherwin-Williams SW 7741 “Willow Tree” for both the walls and trim, creating a rich, enveloping tone that immediately establishes warmth and cohesion. By carrying the same hue across architectural elements, the space feels grounded and intentional, allowing texture and detail to take center stage rather than contrast alone. To elevate the architecture, we introduced a series of custom ceiling beams that draw the eye upward and add a sense of structure and craftsmanship. These were complemented by wall and ceiling ogee molding, bringing in a layer of traditional ornamentation that feels both elegant and tailored. The subtle curves of the ogee profiles soften the room while reinforcing its classic character. Lighting played a key role in enhancing both ambiance and functionality. These are balanced by crinkle metal floor lamps, which add a touch of modern texture and visual interest without straying from the overall aesthetic. We upholstered the sofa in outdoor-grade Sunbrella fabric, a decision that ensures long-term performance without sacrificing style. A generously sized 9' x 12' area rug anchors the seating arrangement, adding softness underfoot and defining the space. Everfall is set within a pristine 20,000-square-foot property in one of Coral Gables’ oldest and most storied neighborhoods. Here, mature canopy trees, towering palms, and historic architecture define a sense of place often referred to as the “real Miami.” While the residence showcases exquisitely modernized architecture and unobstructed views of Biscayne Bay, the pre-existing garden fell short of its potential. Our design challenge is twofold: to reimagine vehicular and pedestrian circulation in harmony with the site’s topography, and to create a garden that respects and reinforces the character of its historic setting. Circulation was addressed first. The driveway was redesigned to ease steep slopes and form a welcoming motor court that blends hardscape and planting. Pedestrian access was reoriented to highlight the east–west axis, and the former unsightly pedestrian ramp was replaced with platform steps, expansive landings, and lush planting; establishing a tranquil and clearly defined entry sequence. The planting design emphasizes native species along the perimeter and public right-of-way, aligning with the evolving character of surrounding gardens. Within the property, sculptural specimen trees, epiphytes, and lithophytes evoke the feeling of a long-established landscape. A palette of Mediterranean textures and cliff-dwelling Date Palm species were integrated as elegant accents. Color plays a vital role in the sensory experience, introduced through climbing vines and profusely flowering shrubs and groundcovers in shades of pink, purple, and white. Passionate about cooking and entertaining guests, their priorities included generous work surfaces, discreet storage for small appliances, and ample space for serving ware, cookware, and dinnerware. The cabinetry was selected for both aesthetics and ease of maintenance. A minimalist, hardware-free look keeps the space visually uncluttered. Lower cabinets operate via a continuous Euro-style channel, which seamlessly integrates with the refrigerator panels. Upper and tall cabinets feature a mix of touch-latch and servo-driven mechanisms, enhancing accessibility while maintaining a sleek profile. A raised bar conceals cooktop clutter during meal prep and creates a welcoming space to serve and engage with guests. The U-shaped layout was essential to keep the work zone distinct from social areas while allowing smooth movement around the kitchen. Lighting played a central role in the design. Multiple layers of illumination, all set to a bright 5000K color temperature per the homeowners' request, include dimmable toe-kick lights and a continuous recessed light channel along the tall cabinets. These create both ambiance and high-function lighting as needed. For entertaining large groups, the kitchen features multiple ovens and a warming drawer—perfect for entertaining. On the refrigerator wall, servo-activated countertop cabinets conceal small appliances, with the countertop surface continuing inside for easy access. A built-in, barista-quality coffee machine is nestled between these cabinets, adding a touch of luxury. For a clean look free of visible outlets, the team installed touch-activated, pop-out Legrand outlets with three-sided access. The color was custom-matched to complement the veining in the quartz countertops. The tall cabinet adjacent to the double oven stores everyday dishware, conveniently located for setting the nearby dining table. At the end of the peninsula, a servo-activated double trash pullout allows easy access without interfering with the cook. A dedicated utensil pullout beside it keeps tools within reach while maintaining clear countertops.

We selected Sherwin-Williams SW 7741 “Willow Tree” for both the walls and trim, creating a rich, enveloping tone that immediately establishes warmth and cohesion. By carrying the same hue across architectural elements, the space feels grounded and intentional, allowing texture and detail to take center stage rather than contrast alone. To elevate the architecture, we introduced a series of custom ceiling beams that draw the eye upward and add a sense of structure and craftsmanship. These were complemented by wall and ceiling ogee molding, bringing in a layer of traditional ornamentation that feels both elegant and tailored. The subtle curves of the ogee profiles soften the room while reinforcing its classic character. Lighting played a key role in enhancing both ambiance and functionality. We incorporated wall sconces to provide a warm, diffused glow in the evenings, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. These are balanced by crinkle metal floor lamps, which add a touch of modern texture and visual interest without straying from the overall aesthetic. At the heart of the room sits a custom-designed sofa—arguably the most important piece in any living space. Given the homeowners’ lifestyle, durability was just as important as beauty. We upholstered the sofa in outdoor-grade Sunbrella fabric, a decision that ensures long-term performance without sacrificing style. The fabric resists wear, stains, and fading, making it an ideal solution for a home with pets while maintaining a polished, tailored look. Layering was essential in completing the design. A generously sized 9' x 12' area rug anchors the seating arrangement, adding softness underfoot and defining the space. Decorative mirrors were strategically placed to reflect light and create depth, while faux plants introduce greenery without the maintenance—an ideal choice for busy households.
