Living room - mid-sized coastal formal and enclosed light wood floor living room idea in Boston with green walls and no tv

It was very obvious that this old kitchen had to be remodeled and that the new kitchen has to provide the perfect functionality of everyday use for this client that really likes to cook. Even though we couldn’t change the original foot print of the kitchen area, with the use of the Alno products and door styles it was possible to organize it into sections of different cooking activities and bring the modern look into the space by using the handle less kitchen system of Alno. The combination of colors and materials kept the flow between the new kitchen area to the other existing parts of this old beautiful house.
Door Style Finish: Alno Star Line Nature Line, wood veneer door style, in the carbon oak wood veneer finish, combined with Alno Star Line Satina, matt glass finish door style, in the magnolia white color finish.

Situated at the end of a cul-de-sac near the beautiful Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve, this 1907 Parnassus Heights home belongs to an active couple with a young daughter. They had dreams of transforming their home into a comforting refuge, equally equipped to whip up cocktails for guests, welcome them home after a good surf, or host their aging parents.
We touched just about every space in this home, including the kitchen, hallway, dining room, bedrooms, and bathrooms. In addition, we updated the basement hall that leads to the outside, transforming it into a more presentable entry for guests, and created an enclosed storage space. Given the age of the home and its location on a hillside, precise structural work was involved to renew the home’s integrity.
In the kitchen, which was originally dark and cramped, we made dramatic changes. We expanded the kitchen’s footprint, designing it to capture the expansive city views and create the indoor-outdoor living space they had always wanted. A large island with custom concrete countertops, a custom banquette, and beautiful red oak cabinets are just a few of the standout features in this soothing space.
The rest of this home’s spaces received equally thoughtful planning: floor-to-ceiling bedroom wardrobes with integrated lighting, custom built-in elements, carefully layered lighting for ambiance and drama, a steam shower in the primary bathroom, and the addition of skylights to bring in natural light. This home is now an inviting, purposeful space perfectly tailored to infusing joy and ease into their everyday lives.

Caroline and Rich's backyard was lacking any clearly defined spaces for their many expected outdoor activities.
Their new hot tub deck and surrounding built in seating create a space to soak in the their new hot tub and for friends and family to gather around the soakers without getting wet themselves. Space to heat up after a dip when in their windy backyard was necessary too, thus the space for a firetable and added seating flank a large deck-topped boulder feature.
The family's new outdoor dining pavillion has ample space for large group get together, as well as serving for everyday lunches without having to shift any of the outdoor office setup. A built in grill and bench create an ideal stopping point for this structure, which is built right up to a rear utility easement. Fortunately only a bit of upligthing is needed to perfect a grove of existing bamboo that fills the space between this backstop and their back fence!

This garage conversion in La Crescenta transformed an underutilized space into a stylish and highly functional laundry room combined with a playroom. The goal was to create a practical, organized area that feels modern, durable, and welcoming for everyday use.
Cambria quartz countertops were selected for their durability and sleek finish—ideal for a high-use laundry space. Rich dark blue cabinetry adds depth and character, while black fixtures and dark gold hardware introduce a balanced, contemporary contrast.
The light gray epoxy flooring provides a seamless, durable surface that resists wear and stains, making it perfect for both laundry tasks and children’s activities. A modular storage system was installed to maximize organization and maintain a clean, clutter-free environment.
Through close collaboration with the homeowner, this garage remodel was thoughtfully designed to combine functionality, style, and flexibility creating a versatile space that serves the family’s daily needs.

Most renovations come from the desire to update and refresh the look of an area of living. This update came with an additional meaning in mind: to create a home that was fully functional and would easily accommodate the presence of a wheelchair. In the kitchen, we created multi-level surfaces to allow access to appliances and everyday kitchen activities. These homeowners liked the airy clean feeling of white cabinets but were conscious of the scuffs and marks a wheelchair can make so they chose darker cabinets for the kitchen island to make potential touch-ups much easier. In the bathroom, the second vanity was given a personalized level and an open area under the sink to allow plenty of room for the chair.
The cabinets in both the kitchen and bathroom are from Great Northern Cabinetry. Both cabinet choices are Maple wood; the white kitchen cabinets are in the color Antique White and the darker cabinets in both the kitchen (island) and the bathroom are in the color Toffee.
The countertops are two colors of Cambria quartz; the kitchen countertop island is in the color 'Bellingham' and the perimeter tops are 'Castell'. Each countertop is a grey base that contains flecks of color to complement their respective cabinet counterpart.
