This traditional 4,000 square-foot home is located on a quiet cul de sac in Alamo, California. It served as a family home for San Francisco city professionals, but it was due for a remodel following a change in the lives of the owners. The homeowners are now empty nesters and came to Yoko Oda Interior Design to update their home. Our aim was to create a sophisticated timeless modern environment for this large estate in the San Francisco Bay Area. We were excited to take on the challenge and give the home a new lease of life now their children have grown up and left home.
Our sophisticated clients were drawn to traditional architectural details, global influences (i.e., Yoko’s Japanese modern aesthetics), contemporary clean lines, and neutral sophisticated color palettes. We have incorporated these interior design elements throughout the home, helping to maximize the space and features available to them while creating a more adult-friendly space to live. Neutral colors allow our clients to continue adding to the home in the future without committing to any colors that they may get tired of after some time. They are a classy option to add to any space and act as the backdrop for any artwork or home accessories that may be added later on.
Yoko’s design inspiration came from the clients’ personalities and the color palettes in their wardrobe. Our wardrobes say so much about us, and it’s a great way to learn more about the clients we are working with. A home needs to reflect the personalities of those living there, giving them a space to come back and relax in Alamo after a busy day.
We utilized the architectural features in their home such as a 22’ high ceiling, the large windows with natural light and the beautiful gardens outside. We incorporated each of these elements in an intentional way, with the goal of creating a home that was distinctive, layered and that felt collected over time. Yoko created a calm, global, understated city vibe in this family home, which is something that can be a challenge to cultivate in the San Francisco Bay Area. We hope the family will enjoy many more years of living in this beautiful property during this new stage in their lives.

The customers loved our R-Blade modern pergola design that could match the architecture of the mansion. These automated louvered roof systems allow for better climate management while also offering natural ventilation. This is all due to the in-built sensor system that detects the weather in real-time and reacts accordingly. For example, the rain sensors automatically close the blades, while the wind sensors find the perfect setting in case of strong winds to keep you and your guests comfortable.
This was the perfect solution for this Palm Beach county mansion in Bear’s Club, Jupiter, FL, with its 800 sq. ft. space that boasts of wooden floors, a recording studio, dedicated game room, and other features.
The challenges of louvered pergola design for this project
Working on this special project with very exacting requirements was a very exciting challenge.
1- Three zones with different heights
This modern pergola design covers three zones with different heights – a living area, dining area, and an outdoor kitchen. Additionally, the customer wanted elaborate outdoor seating with no more than 8 spot beams, 16 LED lights, and a unique drainage system that had to be tied into the pipe under the gradient.
2 – Re-engineer our gutter system that prevents leakage
A super gutter was attached to the upper beam taking water from the main roof down a separate post, resulting in a neat design that’s perfect for this luxury mansion. The customer also required a fully functional outdoor kitchen where practicality, technology, and aesthetics could provide a contemporary feel to the environment. Our bio-climactic pergola served as a perfect design feature for meeting all these needs – while also sheltering from atmospheric agents.
We designed the modern pergola with our sturdy and functional technology that provides a well-engineered solution to safeguard the deck from heavy rain and sunlight. This provides our customers with a beautiful and comfortable space to entertain friends and family members with a spectacular view.
Outside features and Azenco’s solutions
All in all, we had to create an indoor-outdoor living room for this Bear’s Club mansion. The luxury pergola had to match high standards and stand out from the rest of the architecture. That’s why it was crafted in solid mahogany.
Before its renovation, this was just the huge yard with a pool. But now, it’s the perfect indoor-outdoor area with casual rattan furniture and a tridimensional automated pergola that brings out the latest technology in home automation.
The large cooking area is spacious enough to accommodate a barbecue. But as chic and elegant as it looks, it can be super hard to maintain an outdoor kitchen since it is easily exposed by atmospheric agents.
However, the bio-climactic pergola offers it much-needed protection as it safeguards all your appliances, surfaces, and cooking items from excess heat and winds.

Once again, we have had the pleasure of working with this outstanding builder on another project. Aaron Mauk not only designed but supplied and installed all the cabinetry in this new home which definitely utilizes an "open" design concept throughout. Unique lighting elements are found in every room which keeps every space fun and exciting. The kitchen uses grey tones to create a cool, clean environment that showcases the breathtaking ceilings. Most of the cabinetry in the house is shown in Marsh’s “Graphite” stain on maple wood, which is a beautiful way of tying the whole home together. This home is not only beautiful, but it is functional as well. The pull down closet rods found in the laundry room extend over the washer and dryer so it can be used when needed, but easily stored out of the way when not in use.

A custom D1 Entry Door flanked by substantial sidelights was designed in a bold rust color to highlight the entrance to the home and provide a sense of welcoming. The vibrant entrance sets a tone of excitement and vivacity that is carried throughout the home. A combination of cedar, concrete, and metal siding grounds the home in its environment, provides architectural interest, and enlists massing to double as an ornament. The overall effect is a design that remains understated among the diverse vegetation but also serves enough eye-catching design elements to delight the senses.

Bathroom in Ridgerunner Drive | Room Type:
Whole Home Remodel |
Project Name:
Ridgerunner |
Key Feature:
A full-home transformation that converted the property from a dated Tuscan style into a modern farmhouse design with a more contemporary edge.
Challenge:
The home’s original Tuscan style felt dated and did not align with the homeowners’ desired aesthetic. The challenge was to modernize the entire space while creating a design that remained practical and comfortable for a young family with a child.
Solution:
The home underwent a complete remodel that replaced the heavy Tuscan finishes with a lighter, more modern farmhouse palette. Updated materials, finishes, and design details created a fresh, contemporary look while maintaining a family-friendly environment.
Timeline:
Completed in 2019.

This St. Helena residence was an exciting enhancement from a regular backyard into a hidden oasis, based on our clients’ vision. They desired a “secret garden” that was drought resistant and included a large vegetable garden that could produce a variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers.
We delivered a unique and cohesive backyard that has something new to discover around every corner. The backyard features a “rock river” that solves drainage issues and ensures the garden thrives year-round. Designed with drought-resistant plants native to California, the landscaping incorporates numerous succulents to create a lush, low-water environment. The centerpiece of the backyard is the prized vegetable area, featuring custom vegetable boxes.
We continue to work closely with the client to find new ways to update the space by filling bare spots, adding vibrant color hues, and rotating the crops. By maintaining this collaborative partnership, we have crafted a dynamic and ever-evolving secret garden that continues to delight the clients and their guests.

In the heart of the Downtown Sanford Historic District stands a small but mighty Florida style bungalow… Our client trusted us to create an environment that was fun, quirky, exciting and sophisticated - all at the same time. Each room of the house became a special place dedicated to how her life functions: a home gym, puzzle room and a catarium. Yes, we designated a room just for the cats! The design team created vibrant pops of color and textures into the furniture and decor while keeping the walls neutral to showcase her creative artwork and collectibles. Every room captures the personality of her and her fur-babies! #ACIremodeled

Ooh baby our client is excited and so are we! New room, new kiddo, new accessories, new adventure! Little cutie Carter needs a crib to crash… (so the parents can try to get some sleep)
There’s nothing quite like preparing for one’s first child. From the crazy anticipation to the silliest worries, adding a plus one to the family can be a lot (not to mention the hormones and why do pickles sound SOOO good?!?) Luckily, Paxton Place is more than happy to help! We can’t bring ice cream at 2am (sorry) but we can design a cute and cozy space for you and the baby to bond together.
Our client wanted a modern twist on the classics for little Carter. We chose various blues and whites for our boy; but notice the fun patterns on the ceiling and sheets. There’s a refined minimalist design with the furniture that feels timeless but looks 21st century. Transitioning, a new baby isn’t just for the parents; grandparents have to make room, also. They opted for a more traditional approach for grandbaby number 1. To accommodate, we installed soft lacy curtains and blankets for our special man. There’s also antique plates and mirrors to reflect a more mature design that matches the rest of their home. We loved creating two unique environments, connecting generations to come.

This is a Cape Code traditional salt box style home with time-honored details and a contemporary California twist. There are elegant formal spaces oriented towards the front, and large open family spaces facing the rear yard. Exciting volume at the entry foyer and stair lend natural light and an open feeling throughout the home. Beautiful crown moulding and wood trim, subtle colors, and warm wood floors are evocative of a genuine traditional environment.

With the exciting contemporary style of the sweeping padded arms and plush pillow back design, the sleek beauty of the "Darcy-Sky" upholstery collection is sure to awaken the décor of any home environment while offering the comfort that you have been searching for.

One Riverside Park is New York’s most distinguished new address, introducing a new level of luxury to waterfront living on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. With floor to ceiling windows throughout you enjoy sweeping views of the Hudson and feel the energy of the fast-paced city that never sleeps just floors below you. With this interior the client wanted to capture that excitement but maintain a cool + comfortable environment. What we came up with is what we refer to as Industrial Chic – an interior that celebrates the grit and sexiness of the city but also embraces the metropolitan chicness that only Manhattan can provide. We took raw elements such as blackened steel, bronze and concrete and paired them with soft, tactile fabrics like cottons, silk, leathers + furs in subtle shades of greys + neutral tones to create an inviting, artistic + unique atmosphere. It’s the small yet subtle details of this interior that set the mood – buffalo leather clad columns + walls, crystal + LED wallpapers, fur rugs + bed throws and polished precious metal details throughout.
DL featured product:
DL Custom Upholstery: multi-directional sofa, DLUSH media group, modernist bedroom suite. Custom Wall Coverings: buffalo leather + cowhide wall tiles, crystal + LED wallpaper, custom graphics wallpaper. Custom Rugs: woven leather, wool, alpaca, silk graphics + fur. Lounge Chairs: altopiano leather chaise, track, marie, gordon swivel, glove + ebonized petal chair. Lighting: tokio carbon fiber, Stanhope floor, muse table, UP table, TVM table + custom fixtures. Custom built-ins + storage in natural woods + hi-gloss lacquer throughout. Special Edition + Limited Edition artworks by client.
