Exposed brick walls, dark joinery and contrasting textures and soft furnishings allows this space to have a lovely homely feel while still being a contemporary family home. A wood burning fire in the sitting area creates a toasty corner, even in an open plan room. A multi use space for entertaining and family life this project is still a hit, and a favourite of ours and the public. The space can be opened up to bring the outside, in. By opening up the huge sliding glazed doors onto the patio you create an even larger space where life can spill out into the garden, and equally lets nature into the home with a breath of fresh air.
The pendant lights above the table from John Lewis – William Bottle Glass Pendants from the Croft collection £130 each. These are such simple lights with a hint of detail and a slightly industrial feel ties in beautifully with the metal star table lamp on the bespoke side table.

Interior view of the living room in the first Passive House in Milton Keynes. Designed for Milton Keynes Parks Trust, and completed in summer 2012, Howe Park Passive House is the probably the most airtight building in the UK, achieving 0.07 air changes per hour.
This 5 bedroom family home replaced a burnt out derelict house with a house which was truly environmentally sustainable and at the same time aesthetically pleasing. The house was built for Milton Keynes Parks Trust who have rented it to a lucky family.
It has been constructed from and clad with sustainable timber, the exterior cladding is Kebony. It has high levels of insulation, high performance triple glazing, exceptional attention to detail and minimal cold bridging. In addition, low VOC paints have been used on the interior to provide a healthy and comfortable home and the building orientation and form have been maximised for solar gain. Innovative details have been used throughout including the foundation detail where the timber sole plate has been eliminated.
Ventilation is provided using mechanical ventilation with heat recovery ensuring fresh air to the house, with minimal heat lost, or the windows can be opened if wished. The minimal amount of heat needed is estimated to be below £75 per annum using direct electric heating which is offset by electricity produced from Photovoltaic panels (PV) on the roof taking advantage of the feed in tariff and making the house have almost zero fuel bills!
The design also incorporated the following features:
PV panels to offset electricity demand for the lighting and ventilation system.
Water butt collects rainwater and overflow drains to pond in wood.
Materials used for the house where possible have been selected for their environmental credentials such as sustainably sourced timber for the timber frame and cladding.
VOC free natural paints & 50% recycled paint to feature wall.
Specialist ecological advice was sort to ensure that existing wildlife, fauna and flora was protected and encouraged, the neighbouring orchard and meadow are to be revitalized. The kerbs and road gullies to make it safer for newts to cross the road.
Reduction in car use encouraged by the provision of a secure cycle store and home office to allow residents to work from home.

The kitchen island leads into the family room, where glowing floral lighting call to the gardens outside. Nature inspired artwork by Kaoru Mansour and Joyce Gehl hang on the walls, creating another conversation with the plant life outside.A Calacata Avorio marble island offers a large surface to prepare food, or enjoy breakfast while admiring exterior views. Stacks of produce are at the ready for convenient snacking, with vegan cookbooks close at hand in preparation for larger meals. A custom niche was designed to display a pottery collection, and offers another space for plant life to grow. Golden hues in the marble add warmth. Wooden bar stools neatly tuck into the island, perfect for socializing and conversation while preparing meals. The kitchen was made with natural materials to inspire peace, and encourage a connection between the environment when considering the food being prepared. A custom knife drawer as part of cabinetry made in collaboration with a local artisan, conveniently located near the oven for easy preparation. FSC certified no VOC apple ply was used for the cabinetry. Custom silverware drawers give ample space for a variety of flatware. Fresh fruit available for healthy snacking doubles as colorful decor. Artwork by Karen Sikie provides a permanent bouquet when flowers begin to wilt. The pantry, featuring a large concealed fridge to match the cabinetry. On the left, two freezer drawers sit below the counter, with additional storage for dried goods and spices. Custom cabinets made in collaboration with a local craftsperson are painted in a warm grey to bring out the dove tones in the marble. The counter tops were specified to reach the clients ideal height for food preparation. The kitchen is designed for ease of use and calm, creating a mindful experience for cooking.
ALL & NXTHING
We tried to recycle as much as we could . The floorboards were from an old mill in yorkshire, rough sawn and then waxed white.
Most of the furniture is from a range of Vintage shops around Hackney and flea markets.
The island is wrapped in the old floorboards as well as the kitchen shelves.

Roundtree Landscaping, Inc
Bram joined Roundtree as our Lead Landscape Design & Sales team member in 2018. An avid traveler and mountain backpacker, Bram takes inspiration both from nature and architecture from around the world when creating new designs. When it comes to Bram’s favorite part of his job with Roundtree, he will tell you it is his connection and relationships with our customers. His goal is to get to know you and listen; to discover the root of your landscape dreams and blend them with plants and techniques that work in our Dallas climate.
In fact, it might seem like Bram is getting a little nosy with you when you start the design process with him! But asking questions about where you grew up, your favorite places to travel, and your day to day lifestyle is crucial for Bram when it comes to creating your perfect outdoor living landscape. In fact, the overall caring and cooperative spirit of the Roundtree Landscape team is a big reason why Bram feels like he fits right in with our company.
Better understanding you – and caring about your needs - is how Bram brings your best landscape to life.
A green industry veteran, Bram has more than 44 years of hands on experience. He started his career by learning greenhouse plant production, which fueled his passion for plants and landscape design. Further study in landscape architecture and botany informed his development as a skilled designer. Bram loves creating beautiful landscapes that are also highly functional; with a keen focus on creating outdoor spaces you can enjoy all year-round.
Fun facts about Bram: Around the office Bram is a “Stupid Dad Jokes” expert! You can count on Bram to post a new Stupid Dad Joke at his desk daily. Bad jokes aside, Bram is also famous for his homemade salad dressings and salad creations. He can also hold his breath longer than anyone he knows, so be sure to ask for a demonstration the next time you see him!
In addition to backpacking a different mountain range each year, Bram also loves snow skiing and water sports. Bram spends much of his time doing volunteer work for the Boy Scouts of America, The Crape Myrtle Trails of McKinney, as well as the Gardens & Grounds Committee at the Dallas Arboretum. Giving is receiving.
