Land-to-ceiling windows line the south side of the dining room, keeping the sunken space from feeling buried under ground. The windows glide open on tracks, virtually eliminating the boundary between inside and out. Tucked beneath the overhang of the master bedroom above, the dining room greatly benefits from the shade during the summer months, although wintertime can also be cool. With regard to the original single-pain windows, the Fishers continue to research their options for greater efficiency. "Replacing them would be astronomically expensive and tamper with the aesthetics of the house," explains Bobbie. A big advantage to the property is its one-car garage, something that is notoriously hard to come by in Manhattan. "The motorcycle shop already had the makings of a garage, and we could use that for our cars", Novogratz explains. Taking up the entire ground floor, the garage and entrance raise the home well off of street level, which affords the family privacy and isolation from the sounds of the roadway outside. The couple commissioned British Pop artist Richard Woods to create an installation on the home's facade. The faux bois panels lend visual interest to the exterior, as well as a good dose of humor. By accentuating the “negative space,” we’ve allowed the carefully chosen furnishings and artwork to steal the show, while the crisp whites and abundance of natural light create a rejuvenated and refreshed interior. This sprawling 5,000 square foot home includes a salon, ballet room, two media rooms, a conference room, multifunctional study, and, lastly, a guest house (which is a mini version of the main house).

These clients had a great vision for their space. The client came in with a bunch of inspiration photos to help explain what she was looking for.
