Inspiration for an eclectic bedroom remodel in New York

It was time for a new style for this teenager’s bedroom. She desperately needed more room for clothes while dreaming of a grown-up room with drapes and a velvet bed. Too busy with teen life to focus on working with a designer, her mother offered the general guidelines. Design a room that will transition into young adulthood with furnishings that will be transferable to her apartment in the future. Two must haves: the color “millennial pink” and a hardwood floor! This dark walk-out basement-bedroom was transformed into a bright, efficient, grown-up room so inviting that it earned the name “precious”! Clarity Northwest Photography: Matthew Gallant

Modern front yard and exterior transformation of this ranch eichler in the Oakland Hills. The house was clad with horizontal cedar siding and painting a deep gray blue color with white trim. The landscape is mostly drought tolerant covered in extra large black slate gravel. Stamped concrete steps lead up to an oversized black front door. A redwood wall with inlay lighting serves to elegantly divide the space and provide lighting for the path.

Built-in interior lighting above the wall bed is perfect for reading in bed and the switch is conveniently located on the left side of the head of the bed. When the wall bed is open, the lighted, recessed well that holds the bed when it is closed creates a visual separation from the wall storage unit, framing the top of the mattress like a custom headboard.
