This 80 acre ranch in the coastal foothills has a beautifully rich environment with great diversity of vegetation, two creeks and a pond set amongst large old oak trees. The design for this site, an old dairy farm, has included master planning for the site, layout of pastures, paddocks, and fencing, layout of roads and building sites, development of a 90' x 200' outdoor riding arena design with terraced, shaded viewing area, and a round pen. This office has been responsible for site planning, grading, drainage and construction details for site work, and building design for the ten stall barn and separate 70' x 160' covered arena with attached viewing room.

This 215 acre private horse breeding and training facility can house up to 70 horses. Equine Facility Design began the site design when the land was purchased in 2001 and has managed the design team through construction which completed in 2009. Equine Facility Design developed the site layout of roads, parking, building areas, pastures, paddocks, trails, outdoor arena, Grand Prix jump field, pond, and site features. The structures include a 125’ x 250’ indoor steel riding arena building design with an attached viewing room, storage, and maintenance area; and multiple horse barn designs, including a 15 stall retirement horse barn, a 22 stall training barn with rehab facilities, a six stall stallion barn with laboratory and breeding room, a 12 stall broodmare barn with 12’ x 24’ stalls that can become 12’ x 12’ stalls at the time of weaning foals. Equine Facility Design also designed the main residence, maintenance and storage buildings, and pasture shelters. Improvements include pasture development, fencing, drainage, signage, entry gates, site lighting, and a compost facility.

A post framed horse barn design is connected to a 70' x 146' engineered steel indoor arena created a tee shaped building. The barn has nine stalls, wash/groom stalls, office, and support spaces on the first floor and a laboratory and storage areas on the second floor. The office and laboratory have windows into the indoor horse riding arena design. The riding arena is day lit from roll-up glass garage doors, translucent panel clerestories, and a translucent panel gable end wall. Site layout; driveways; an outdoor arena; pastures; and a storage building with a manure bunker were also included in the property development.

With this international project, Equine Facility Design was brought on to address site master planning and design the project development for a private equestrian training facility, focused on showjumping. The program entails a 30 stall stable, groom housing, equipment storage, hay and bedding storage facilities. The design included a 50 x 30 meter indoor arena with a viewing room, a 70 x 50 meter outdoor arena, with indoor viewing room, an outdoor multipurpose sport court arena with viewing terrace. Additional infrastructure provided for manure storage facilities, a horse exerciser, a 25 x 3 meter equine therapy/ swimming pool, and site amenities of parking and access drives, pastures, and paddocks.

Equine Facility Design was involved in the renovation of this existing hunter/jumper horse training facility of 45 stalls. Work included re-roofing, new concrete aisles, stall fronts, doors, windows, lighting, viewing room, a new exerciser, renovation of the parking lot with new layout and plantings, development of outdoor paddocks with all weather footing, improvements to the outdoor derby field, and landscaping throughout the property. Work continues on the renovation of interior spaces for offices, tack, rest rooms, storage, and locker rooms.

On this 6 acre site, the owner converted a 27 stall existing hunter-jumper facility, built in the 1960’s, to a dressage training center through the reconstruction of three new stables; an addition of a second full-court outdoor dressage arena; renovations to existing six stall stables; new paddocks; reconstruction of the existing caretakers’ living quarters; and new storage barns. Work by Equine Facility Design included working with the project team on grading, drainage, buildings, layout of circulation areas, fencing, and landscape design.

For a dedicated equestrian client, Equine Facility Design created a carefully designed a private facility on five acres of a private residential development. The project consists of a three stall stable with office, tack, feed room, wash/groom stall, hay storage, bedding storage, equipment storage, and indoor O2 Compost system, as well as an attached 82’ x 156’ indoor riding arena. Ample room for trailer loading and storage is provided near the stable entrance. The stable and arena were designed to complement the existing residence on the property, and conform with the development homeowner’s association. On this project, Equine Facility Design used the conceptual drawings created by Owen Homes to complete this 8,000 square foot 12 stall horse barn design. The project includes a 150' x 300' outdoor riding horse arena design, mechanical exerciser, and layout of paddocks on this 11 acre site.

Shale Oak Winery is in Paso Robles, California and is LEED Gold accredited. The project consists of a wine tasting facility, approx. 2,570 sq ft and a wine processing facility, approx. 3,700 sq ft. To best utilize the site for solar gain and rainwater harvesting, the wine processing facility and the wine tasting facility are two separate buildings, fused together by landscaping and a patio. The project is designed to harvest 500,000 gal of rainwater, which is used for flushing the toilets and irrigating the vineyard. This existing hunter jumper boarding and training barn was completely renovated with demolition and replacement of existing stalls and support facilities. New aisle, stalls, groom, tack, feed, office and viewing room were constructed adjacent to the existing steel covered arena. The site provided opportunity to incorporate both active and passive solar design into the structure. South facing glass walls along a corridor and the viewing room, along with designed thermal storage in masonry mass and appropriate insulation creates a design which will keep occupants comfortable and lower energy costs. The stall walls are lined with bamboo lumber. Induction lighting fixtures are installed throughout the barn and arena to reduce energy consumption.
