LOFT | Luxury Loft Transformation | FOUR POINT DESIGN BUILD INC This ultra feminine luxury loft was designed for an up-and-coming fashion/travel writer. With 30' soaring ceiling heights, five levels, winding paths of travel and tight stairways, no storage at all, very little usable wall space, a tight timeline, and a very modest budget, we had our work cut out for us. Inspired by the color-blocked wooden necklace, we kept pops of color in set zones in the kitchen. Brightening Up the Kitchen: Two growing children means the kitchen is in constant use. The goal was to give it an overarching style to better contain the daily chaos that every family-filled household has. This didn’t require major changes, just lots of little ones. A palette of blue, light gray, and glowing brass was created. Spotlight-like lighting was swapped out for modern black and brass fixtures, which diffuse light throughout the space, and all the hardware was changed to brass. This home’s noteworthy steel shipping container construction material, offers a streamlined aesthetic and industrial vibe, with sustainable attributes and strength. Recycled shipping containers are fireproof, impervious to water and stronger than traditional building materials. Inside, muscular concrete walls, burnished cedar beams and custom oak cabinetry give the living spaces definition, decorative might, and storage and seating options. A blend of contemporary and modern elements make this living room stand apart. The new EcoSmart fireplace has self-contained ethanol burners, meaning no gas or electrical utility connections. We developed the design for the firebox using brushed and polished stainless steel in a multi-dimensional fashion. On the remainder of the fireplace, the maple veneers were made into book-matched sections to create a dramatic compliment to the stainless steel. We discussed the location of the sink and decided if we moved it to the other wall, it could be centered under the window, thus making it a more pleasurable when working at it. This created a long and more functional countertop to the right. We chose Caesarstone for the durability and ease of maintenance in a Carrera marble look for the countertops. This is complimented by the gray subway style tile backsplash with crisp white grout. State-of-the-art appliances were included in the new floor plan: a microwave set in the upper cabinet, wine cooler below, new dishwasher with a panel to match the cabinets, a new stainless steel refrigerator, and a new professional style range and hood. The alcove for the range received the same tile backsplash, but we used a herringbone pattern to accent the feature wall. We also created a niche in the side wall to provide handy storage for spices. The base cabinets contain spice pullout storage. The original wood framing around the alcove was treated to a new coat of white paint to match the cabinets. Mary Broerman, CCIDC
