The challenge for this project was to find materials that fit into the owners' architectural style, selfentitled "Texas Hill Country Contemporary"; warm and inviting, but also clean and contemporary. The architect and the owners were determined not to copy the typical "Tuscan" style so popular for upscale homes in the Austin area. The main feature of the house is the use of both indoor and outdoor spaces and is designed so that everyday life flows through all of the spaces. The material selections had to be compatible to color schemes inside and out, blending with the local cut stone used on the exterior of the house, but also functional in their application.
Interior flooring: AG&M furnished hone finish Selina Gold limestone tile from Egypt for the majority of ground floor paving. This material has a wide range of color, the selection was made from a particular quarry and a particular layer within that quarry.
Exterior paving, pool coping, fireplace facing: Goldstone granite was chosen because it performs well in exterior applications and has the soft coloring of limestone. The paving and coping is chisel finish and the outdoor fireplace is clad with split face Goldstone to match.
Kitchen countertops: Apollo Storm granite in a polish finish with matching full-height, endmatched backsplash.

New flooring into master bedroom
Now this was a fun project! We had the privilege of stopping out to perform a consultation for this client’s bathroom, and what a project it was! The existing bathroom provided plenty of room for a renovation, but the home owner was a little unsure of exactly what they wanted. They presented us with a wish list, and asked for our advice on how to fit everything into their dream master bathroom. The key factor for the hole project centered around the shower. Number one priority was a spacious, luxurious shower of their dreams. We worked hand in hand with them to provide the perfect layout, which included moving the toilet across the bathroom to make room. The old layout included a shower room that housed the toilet. To provide the biggest possible space, we converted the WHOLE room into one large shower.
While the shower size was adequate for the typical home owner, it simply was not what our client wanted. We replace the window with glass block and moved the toilet out of the room. Then we proceeded to install 2 separate shower faucets with diverter valves and slide bar mounted hand-held shower wands
The tile our client selected paired perfectly, and provided an eye-popping tiled shower enclosure.
The closet was originally sectioned off into 2 rooms with an entrance from not only the bedroom, but also the bathroom. We eliminated this separating to allow a better flow and more storage options. The tub was completed deleted to make room for a longer, more elegant vanity to take its place.
Our client liked the idea of continuing water proof vinyl plank flooring from the bathroom through their master bedroom as well.
We enjoy all of the projects that we are blessed to participate in. However, there are some that just stand apart from the field. They loved the quiet neighborhood, its sense of community and amenities, and their home. It suited their life-style and needs; and they had decided that they would remain in the home. It was showing its age, and was in need of general repairs and maintenance, and its energy, water, and indoor air quality performance was continuing to increase their ongoing cost of ownership.
Robin loved the screen porch that looked out on their private and nicely landscaped back yard, but she wanted to be able to use it in the colder months of the year. She was unsatisfied with the kitchen and the mud room / laundry room, and the darkness of other living spaces. A previous water leak in the laundry room had resulted in a large patch of mold that had compromised flooring, wall board, and insulation and contributed to the homes reduced indoor air quality.
The home lacked insulation in the crawl, and inadequate insulation in the attic. The single HVAC unit had been replaced a few years earlier with a more efficient unit, but with a single programmable thermostat control on the first floor and aging and un-insulated ducting, the second floor was often over-heated in the summer months.
The original wood windows had begun to deteriorate and were drafty and inefficient, and the original wood-burning fireplace was an open conduit for escaping conditioned air as well as an inlet for wood-smoke smelling air being pulled into the home. The original bathroom reflected a very typical North Texas layout of its era — dark stained cabinetry, granite countertops, compartmentalized vanities, a built-in tub adjoining a framed shower, and separated spaces that no longer aligned with how the homeowners wanted to live. As their aesthetic evolved toward a more transitional and contemporary direction, the goal became less about replacing finishes and more about redefining the experience of the room itself. The project needed to feel calmer, more architectural, and far more intentional in how the space functioned visually and emotionally.
One of the most important changes was removing the original shower curb and pony wall in favor of a fully open curbless shower with ultra-clear ½-inch heavy glass. Achieving that look required recessing the slab, re-floating the shower floor toward a linear drain, and engineering the space so the room would read as visually uninterrupted from end to end. Throughout the project, many of the design decisions were rooted in restraint rather than excess. The oversized 24x48 Porcelanosa flooring carries very little shade variation, creating a quieter visual field, while the cabinetry was executed in rift-sawn white oak specifically because it produces a far more controlled and consistent finish outcome than more common cuts of wood. In luxury projects, consistency itself becomes part of the refinement.
The floating vanity was designed more like custom furniture than traditional cabinetry, utilizing waterfall mitered edges and fully reworked plumbing locations so both homeowners could share in having generous functional countertop space. The original makeup station was repurposed into integrated storage with powered drawers and concealed organization for everyday items such as blow dryers and flat irons. Along the vanity wall, wall-mounted plumbing fixtures were paired with ribbed natural marble surfaces — a detail that required intentional planning long before construction began. Rather than allowing the ribbed material to terminate awkwardly behind the fixtures, the backsplash and stone transitions were specifically designed to resolve those conditions cleanly. Those are the types of details that distinguish highly coordinated design-build work from projects that simply assemble materials together.
While the room contains a significant amount of luxury detailing — from the freestanding tub and geoprism marble focal wall to the custom rift-sawn white oak closet doors and elongated mirrors that leverage the 11-foot ceiling heights — the project was always guided by quiet luxury rather than visual competition. Even the water closet enclosure was handled with restraint through the use of a satin-etched glass door rather than another heavy solid opening. The intent throughout was to create a bathroom that feels restorative and serene rather than overdesigned. In our view, the best luxury spaces are the ones that feel composed long after the initial impression wears off.

Water is a critical component in oil and gas processing, playing a crucial role in various stages of exploration, production, and refining. However, water handling in such processes poses serious challenges, mainly in connection with treating high TDS and salinity water. The situation is even more serious in oilfield sites, gas field sites, and exploratory sites where the need for water recycling and treatment is always necessary to minimize the impact on the environment and to keep operational costs at a minimum.
The oil and gas industry has seen a growing concern toward water treatment and recycling. These processes underline the sustainability of operations, license to operate, and low environmental footprint. This paper discusses the roles water treatment plants can play in mitigating the problems of high TDS and salinity during oil and gas production by recycling and reusing water to minimize waste and environmental harm.
The Water Challenges in Oil and Gas Production
Water finds its application on a large scale in the oil and gas industry for several purposes, such as in drilling, hydraulic fracturing, cooling, and hydrocarbon processing. The water used in these aforementioned processes frequently comes into contact with a wide array of contaminants, among which are hydrocarbons, heavy metals, several various chemicals, and high concentrations of dissolved salts. This contaminated water, often referred to as produced water, produces a great environmental risk if not properly treated.
Produced water typically contains high TDS concentrations, including salts, minerals, and other dissolved solids. Reservoir location and depth can make the salinity of this water vary widely. For many produced waters, these TDS values are very high and not suitable for direct discharge or reuse without treatment. The presence of salts and other dissolved solids can result in scaling, corrosion, and other operational problems of equipment, pipelines, and storage vessels.

A typical Dutch backyard, long and narrow with an access to an alley in the back, this designed to optimize the usable space. The garden is roughly broken up into four areas: a flower and plant rich section near the house with a small seating area, a grass field for the kids to play spanning the entire width of the garden, a pond with a marshy banks and stepping stones, and the veranda (complete with bike shed). The inspiration for this room was found in an image of a bed in a field of lavender - how calming! The feature wallpaper in the bedroom evokes that same feeling. The introduction of green was inspired by the Jade plants and other succulents owned by my client.
Typical of most apartment living, storage was key and as the room was a good size we used small dressers as nightstands to accomplish this.

This custom kitchen backsplash was designed to make a statement using Daltile Color Wheel 2" x 8" tile in Arctic White, accented with random inserts of Mustard, Currant, and Black for a fun, modern pop of color.
The clean white field tile keeps the space bright and timeless, while the scattered colored accents add personality, energy, and a unique custom touch that reflects the homeowner's style.
