We opened the original floor plan by removing walls, adding an addition off the back including a kitchen/dinette, family room, and mud room. Above that, a beautiful master suite was added. There was intentional focus on keeping the original story-and-a-half look to fit the neighborhood while updating the architecture to fit curb appeal.

Inspiration for a timeless home gym remodel in Kansas City

This Jersey City, NJ space was the first permanent ‘home’ for the yoga studio, so it was essential for us to listen well and design a space to serve their needs for years to come. Through our design process, we helped to guide the owners through the fit-out of their new studio location that required minimal demolition and disruption to the existing space. Together, we converted a space originally used as a preschool into a welcoming, spacious yoga studio for local yogis. We created one main yoga studio by combining four small classrooms into a single larger space with new walls, while all the other program spaces (including designated areas for holistic treatments, massage, and bodywork) were accommodated into pre-existing rooms. Our team completed all demo, sheetrock, electrical, and painting aspects of the project. (The studio owners did some of the work themselves, and a different company installed the flooring and carpets.) The results speak for themselves: a peaceful, restorative space to facilitate health and healing for the studio’s community. Looking to renovate your place of business? The original kitchen in this condominium was renovated arising from the need to replace Kitec plumbing. The work triangle remained generally the same, but numerous changes were made to improve the kitchen’s functionality, aesthetics, and lighting. Automation was also introduced. The goal was to design and build a modern contemporary functional kitchen with inspiring colours accented with textured wood features. The functionality was improved with the addition of an under counter microwave, which freed up countertop space. Additional and improved storage was also created by incorporating under cabinet drawers throughout the kitchen, a bar area with open glass shelving above, and open shelving to the right of the seating area. Upper cabinet storage was as well increased with storage above the fridge. Numerous lighting improvements were made including the addition of potlights. This was done by dropping the ceiling in the kitchen, which also created a visual division with the dining area. Automation was introduced as well into the space with HUE under cabinet lighting, and a touch faucet. The under cabinet lights are controlled by the Phillips Hue App that programs routines, scenes, and other settings. The kitchen features painted Shaker cabinets accented by textured wood shelving. The countertop surfaces are quartz with waterfalls on both sides of the island, which is a focal point. Shapes are also strongly identified in the design with the use of triangular tiles in the backsplash along with rectangular upper cabinets, and appliance doors and drawers. The kitchen is made most unique though with the uplifting use of colour in the cabinets that make this a bright and cheerful space. Aristea Photography

YOU DON'T CHANGE A CLASSIC. YOU REFINE IT. | Now Tara is the contemporary interpretation of a design icon for the kitchen as well. They are small changes, fine details. But it is precisely these details that determine the class of Tara. Tara looks even more elegant. The extended body formally straightens up the fitting. The rosettes and handles are more streamlined, and the overall contours are sharper. All this is done to put even greater emphasis on the perfectly geometric, symmetrical and clear use of form and to concentrate and refocus. This refinement also puts Tara Classic in the kitchen back under the Tara umbrella, so that this will be the only program in the future – with lever or cross-handle options.

IWA Design Center worked with a country club to create wine lockers for members to conveniently store their collection on site. Each locker is separately keyed, includes LED accent lighting, is marked with a name plate, and holds 12 wine bottles. The decorative Flemish patterned alder wood frames have insulated glass doors with magnetic seals to maintain temperature. To match existing cabinets, IWA was sent a sample for stain matching, so that the lockers would fit in seamlessly with existing furniture and millwork. The installation is front venting to allow for placement flush with the wall, using CellarPro's 1800 Houdini cooling units carefully hidden behind decorative hinged access panels. So far, the program has been profitable for the country club, and members are pleased to have wine lockers as an available feature.
