About five years ago, these homeowners saw the potential in a brick-and-oak-heavy, wallpaper-bedecked, 1990s-in-all-the-wrong-ways home tucked in a wooded patch among fields somewhere between Indianapolis and Bloomington. Their first project with SYH was a kitchen remodel, a total overhaul completed by JL Benton Contracting, that added color and function for this family of three (not counting the cats). A couple years later, they were knocking on our door again to strip the ensuite bedroom of its ruffled valences and red carpet—a bold choice that ran right into the bathroom (!)—and make it a serene retreat. Color and function proved the goals yet again, and JL Benton was back to make the design reality. The clients thoughtfully chose to maximize their budget in order to get a whole lot of bells and whistles—details that undeniably change their daily experience of the space. The fantastic zero-entry shower is composed of handmade tile from Heath Ceramics of California. A window where the was none, a handsome teak bench, thoughtful niches, and Kohler fixtures in vibrant brushed nickel finish complete the shower. Custom mirrors and cabinetry by Stoll’s Woodworking, in both the bathroom and closet, elevate the whole design. What you don't see: heated floors, which everybody needs in Indiana.

Located in stylish Chelsea, this updated five-floor townhouse incorporates both a bold, modern aesthetic and sophisticated, polished taste. Palettes range from vibrant and playful colors in the family and kids’ spaces to softer, rich tones in the master bedroom and formal dining room. DHD interiors embraced the client’s adventurous taste, incorporating dynamic prints and striking wallpaper into each room, and a stunning floor-to-floor stair runner. Lighting became one of the most crucial elements as well, as ornate vintage fixtures and eye-catching sconces are featured throughout the home.

This home was in the 2016 Fall Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase. Get inspired by this tear-down. The home was rebuilt with a six-foot addition to the foundation. The homeowner, an interior designer, dreamed of the details for years. Step into the basement, main floor and second story to see her dreams come to life. It is a mix of old and new, taking inspiration from a 150-year-old farmhouse. Explore the open design on the main floor, five bedrooms, master suite with double closets, two-and-a-half bathrooms, stone fireplace with built-ins and more. The home's exterior received special attention with cedar brackets and window detail.

Nestled in amongst much larger homes, this Preston Hollow Spanish Mediterranean might be a bit deceptive. Scaled appropriately for the 100 x 150 lot, the house is surprising 5000 sq ft. Regarding its age, are you still trying to figure out whether it is new construction or a renovation? Built less than five years ago, it has the timelessness of a 1920′s Hollywood Hills home though designed with all of today’s amenities.

This award-winning and intimate cottage was rebuilt on the site of a deteriorating outbuilding. Doubling as a custom jewelry studio and guest retreat, the cottage’s timeless design was inspired by old National Parks rough-stone shelters that the owners had fallen in love with. A single living space boasts custom built-ins for jewelry work, a Murphy bed for overnight guests, and a stone fireplace for warmth and relaxation. A cozy loft nestles behind rustic timber trusses above. Expansive sliding glass doors open to an outdoor living terrace overlooking a serene wooded meadow.

Holleder and FIve, the couple's 9-year-old twin boys, share a room as do the other four children. "We knew we wanted our kids to share rooms, so that was a huge design element", says Cortney. "We think it is important that they learn how to work with others, so even our boys share a big dormitory style bathroom."
In order to keep the center of the room open, Robert and Cortney placed the boys' beds toe-to-toe along one wall. In true Novogratz fashion, the beds are inexpensive frames from IKEA that received a treatment of custom upholstery.

The stunning white walls of this Rosemary Beach house contrast with the Mediterranean Blue tiles of the pool. The five scuppers pour a stream of sound into the small pool courtyard, providing an oasis in this busy neighborhood. The compact, native landscape provides year-round color and interest.
