Providing a dramatic and elegant place to entertain dinner guests without being too busy or over-the-top was the goal of this dining room. When walking into the entry of the home the back wall of the dining room is one of the first areas that is seen. This custom sunset piece of art definitely makes a dramatic statement and draws your eye into the room with its bold and bright colors and is the perfect backdrop to the glistening glass pendant chandelier. The dining chairs are upholstered in a red textural fabric to tie in the warm reds and pinks found in the art. White crown moulding, wainscoting and the white flokati rug contrast with the dark maple hardwood flooring and black table. The ceiling was painted a few shades darker than the walls and it seems to just disappear when standing in the space again focusing the attention to the color within the space. Custom flower arrangements were made by AshLee Snyder Design with colors that mimic the art.

With five children in the house at the time, Raymond and Jennifer immediately recognized the need for their own floor and claimed the third story for themselves. "It's definitely so high up that it makes it easy to get away," Jennifer explains. "I open the windows that face the lake and just listen to the waves break, and catch a minute." The palladian window is generously sized, filling the room with light and the sounds of nature. The headboard was another piece salvaged and put to a new use. The old barn door was purchased from Jennifer's friend that was moving her store front and no longer had use for it. Seeing its potential, Jennifer and her sister committed to a two-hour journey of getting the door up to the top floor. In wanting to keep with the tone of the rest of the home, these formally his and her offices were transformed into chic, timeless kids' bedrooms for the couple's newly adopted 8-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son.

The goals of this remodel included: the design of a space to accommodate the client’s large artwork collection, and make the art an integral part of the room where it was located, create a natural flow from the inside of the house to the magnificent grounds outside, and to space plan the home within most of its existing footprint but open it up and let the sun shine in. This family room is modern yet warm and inviting. The TV is installed on a walnut panel with LED lights behind which seems to be floating separated from the wall. Below, the white lacquer floor unit provides functional concealed storage to all TV related equipment while keeping the room neat. A natural teak root serves with a beveled glass top as the coffee table. Two modern accent chairs upholstered with an innovative “magazine” print fabric provide comfortable seating while blending seamlessly with the mixture of natural elements in the room. The light plaster walls and dark wood ceilings of the home were the perfect backdrop for us to achieve the task of designing around the client's collection of exquisite Persian rugs. Rich color and textured furnishings were added that really highlighted the beauty in each unique rug. The wall art that was chosen for this space was the final touch to create an intriguing and joyous experience throughout the home.
