In collaboration with Habitude Interiors, this Fall 2023 renovation transformed the heart of a Sardis Forest home through thoughtful updates to the kitchen, dining room, home bar, and living room. The goal was to create a cohesive, inviting environment that seamlessly blends functionality with timeless design.
The kitchen was reimagined with improved flow, enhanced storage, and refined finishes to support both everyday living and entertaining. Adjacent dining and living spaces were redesigned to create a more open and connected layout, while the custom home bar added a sophisticated focal point for hosting family and friends.
Throughout the project, careful attention was given to material selection, craftsmanship, and architectural details to ensure every space felt warm, welcoming, and tailored to the homeowners' lifestyle. The result is a beautifully updated home that balances comfort, elegance, and practicality.

Located in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York, this stunning A-frame Cabin is the perfect retreat from busy city life. With 2,072 total square feet, the cabin has two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, two living spaces, a kitchen, an office, a laundry room, and a mudroom. This modern timber frame is sleek and stunning inside and out.
The exterior is bold, with a striking contrast between the black metal roof and the warm tones of Douglas Fir wood siding. Large windows strategically placed on each side of the home highlight the surrounding landscape's beauty.
Open the front door, and it's easy to imagine stepping into this cabin to unplug and reset. Upon entering the space, the classic white and natural wood combination gives a fresh, clean, calming vibe. The first floor features an open living space with a massive bank of windows letting natural light flood the room. The concealed (or hidden) kitchen design creates a clutter-free look. Right off the kitchen are sliding doors where you can step outside and relax on the ground-level deck. You'll find the primary bedroom and bath near the back of the home. The bathroom has a freestanding tub where you can truly soak in the beautiful views of the forest.
Climb the floating stairs to the loft, passing beneath the web pendant light, and you'll find a guest bedroom on one side and additional living space to relax or create on the other. The desk space with a large lookout window is the perfect setting to spark creativity. A frameless glass railing in the loft is a unique touch that creates a great sense of spaciousness throughout the home.
This A-Frame cabin is the perfect example of a minimalist aesthetic that allows nature to be the focal design element. The timber's natural warmth and texture play a key role in achieving biophilic design. Biophilic design is a philosophy and architectural practice that connects people with nature in built environments. It incorporates natural elements into spaces to improve health and well-being. Shown to improve mood, reduce stress, and enhance cognitive performance, incorporating wood is an important aspect to consider when designing your home.
The structure type of this home is a timber frame. Timber frame construction relies on mortise and tenon (or wood-to-wood) joinery to bring everything together aesthetically and structurally. This traditional method is known for longevity and creates a strong and attractive space.

Looking to take advantage of and improve the usability of their backyard the clients desired a space for hosting at the back of the property. The large natural stone patio provides plenty of space for guests to gather and matches the forest's natural aesthetic. The firepit provides a fun gathering point and a beautiful center piece with its stone veneer. A seating wall was added to provide more seating and table space and give the space a more defined appearance. The boulder wall helps to meld the patio into the surround landscape and matches with the forest surrounding the space. Two walkways using the same large slabs of sandstone as the patio are found on either side of the patio to allow for traffic to flow in and out of the space. Finishing the project with hemlock and shade loving perennials and shrubs, like hosta softened the hardscape and allowed the entire landscape to fit into the woods.

Maggie Walker of Reico Kitchen and Bath in Frederick, MD, in collaboration with Tri State Home Improvement, designed multiple rooms for this project. This remodel included the kitchen, pantry, mudroom and laundry room, highlighting a transitional design style and featuring both Green Forest Cabinetry and Masterpiece Cabinetry.
The kitchen, mudroom and laundry room feature Green Forest Cabinetry in the Park Place door style with an Espresso finish.
The pantry showcases Masterpiece cabinets in the Turner door style in Maple with a Peppercorn finish.
The kitchen also includes MSI Q Peppercorn White countertops, while the pantry and laundry room feature Colonial White granite countertops.
Despite the challenges of being without a kitchen sink, laundry machines and undergoing the installation of new flooring, the clients expressed that the remodeling process was worthwhile, with beautiful results.
“The best advice Maggie gave was to take our time. We had never done a renovation or remodel and this was massive to us. She gave us time to sit with our choice and make changes. The size is the best part of the new kitchen. We went from an extremely small area to a room for a 9’ island, mudroom pantry and laundry, all with gorgeous cabinetry,” said the clients.

A new & improved bathroom, offering our client a locker room/spa feel. We wanted to maximize space, so we custom built shelves throughout the walls and designed a large but seamless shower. The shower is a Kohler DTV+ system complete with a 45-degree angle door, a steam component, therapy lighting, and speakers. Lastly, we spruced up all the tiles with a gorgeous satin finish - including the quartz curb, counter and shower seat.
