Closets can tend to become a 'catch all' space and frequently become cluttered and congested. DYI tips: 1. Don't purchase any organizing/storage items until the decluttering is completed. 2. Start by emptying the closet, completely. 3. Declutter by category (clothing, shoes, accessories, etc) - 4. Keep only the items you truly like (they make you feel good and they fit/function well). 5. Place items back so that frequently used items are most accessible. 6. Hang only what must be hung (fine materials, suits, formal wear, etc) Prevent congestion: allow the width of your fist between each hanger. Fold other items and store 'file' style on shelves or in drawers. 7. Consider adding upgrades such as pull-out drawers, trays, shoe storage.

This Cobble Hill Brownstone for a family of five is a fun and captivating design, the perfect blend of the wife’s love of English country style and the husband’s preference for modern. The young power couple, her the co-founder of Maisonette and him an investor, have three children and a dog, requiring that all the surfaces, finishes and, materials used throughout the home are both beautiful and durable to make every room a carefree space the whole family can enjoy. The primary design challenge for this project was creating both distinct places for the family to live their day to day lives and also a whole floor dedicated to formal entertainment. The clients entertain large dinners on a monthly basis as part of their profession. We solved this by adding an extension on the Garden and Parlor levels. This allowed the Garden level to function as the daily family operations center and the Parlor level to be party central. The kitchen on the garden level is large enough to dine in and accommodate a large catering crew. On the parlor level, we created a large double parlor in the front of the house; this space is dedicated to cocktail hour and after-dinner drinks. The rear of the parlor is a spacious formal dining room that can seat up to 14 guests. The middle "library" space contains a bar and facilitates access to both the front and rear rooms; in this way, it can double as a staging area for the parties. The remaining three floors are sleeping quarters for the family and frequent out of town guests. Designing a row house for private and public functions programmatically returns the building to a configuration in line with its original design. This project was published in Architectural Digest. Inspiration for a modern kitchen remodel in Kansas City

The existing kitchen was in a word, "stuck" between the family room, mudroom and the rest of the house. The client has renovated most of the home but did not know what to do with the kitchen. The space was cut off from the family room, had underwhelming storage capabilities, and could not accommodate family gatherings at the table. Access to recently redesigned backyard was down a step and through the mud room. We began by relocating the entrance to the yard into the kitchen with a French door. The remaining space was converted into a walk in pantry accessible from the kitchen. Next we opened a window to the family room so the children were visible from the kitchen side. The old peninsula plan was replaced with a beautiful blue painted island with seating for 4. The outdated appliances received a major upgrade with Sub Zero Wolf cooking and food preservation products. The visual beauty of the vaulted ceiling is enhanced by long pendants and oversized crown molding. A hard working wood tile floor grounds the blue and white colorway. The colors are repeated in a lovely blue and white screened marble tile. White subway tiles frame the feature. The biggest and possibly the most appreciated change to the space was when we opened the wall into the dining room to connect the disjointed rooms. Now the family has experienced a new appreciation for their home. Rooms which were previously storage areas and now integrated in to the family lifestyle. The open space is so conducive to entertaining visitors frequently just "drop in" In the dining area, we designed custom cabinets complete with a window seat the perfect spot for additional diners or a perch for the family cat. The tall cabinets store all of the china and crystal once stored in a back closet. Now it is always ready to be used. The last found space is now home to a refreshment center. Cocktails and coffee are easily stored and served convenient to the kitchen but out of the main cooking area.

The clients approached us to design them a more modern and organic refuge for their second home on the Texas Coast. They did not want the traditional coastal look but rather a clean look that would accentuate the amazing outdoor view. They frequently entertain and wanted a gathering space as well as functional comfortable bedrooms for their quests. The main areas were gutted and the transformation was everything they hoped for......

Conveniently situated next to the family room and kitchen, the built-in wet bar was expanded and completely reimagined with entertainment in mind. Knapp Kitchen Cabinets crafted a large custom unit finished in Sherwin-Williams’ "Tarragon" and topped with a striking granite surface selected from MSI. Brass plumbing fixtures and hardware complement the rich veining of the stone. A diamond-pattern backsplash from Mona Lisa Tile adds dimension and aligns with the home’s recurring diamond motif. The size and location of the wet bar enable effortless flow when entertaining large groups, which is something our client frequently does.
