The windows look to be the correct height from the outside. However, they are slightly lower than normal on the inside due to floor and ceiling heights. A major challenge during this project was making all design features function correctly and look right from both the interior and exterior.

New period-correct cabinetry, wallpaper and milk-glass lighting create a kitchen and dining room reminiscent of an era past. While opening up a wall and creating a peninsula topped with modern dark countertops and a massive slab backsplash behind the range bring the function desired today. The creation of a custom butler’s pantry painted a deep shade of green and exposing the chimney is a nod to our signature bold layering in both colors, materials and textures.

"This is not a hook." That would be correct, however, changing the function of a decor piece can create a new facet to the room. By using these elephant busts as hooks and painting them to match the room, the re purposed elephants are given new life and whimsy. Photo Credit: Samantha Day

This 80s-90s era home in Plymouth, Minnesota needed definition between the kitchen and family room, so we tore it down to the studs to do it right from the start. A new mudroom, updated entry way and a kitchen renovation that included custom made cabinetry for serving and entertaining helped add design style cues and true functionality. We added more windows for more natural light and a roomier feel for the eating area. And to help tie everything together, we were able to do a simple, cost-effective update the entry room railings.

Inspiration for a timeless carpeted, beige floor and wainscoting bedroom remodel in Kansas City with white walls

This new construction home is located in Hinsdale, Illinois. The main goal of this kitchen was to create a real cook’s kitchen– great for entertaining and large family gatherings. The concept was to have this working kitchen loaded with appliances completely hidden since the space is open to the family room. O’Brien Harris Cabinetry in Chicago (OBH) seamlessly integrated the kitchen into the architecture. They created concealed appliance storage and designed cabinetry to look like furniture. The back wall of the kitchen was designed to look like a beautiful, paneled wall. The ovens were located off to the side – pulled up on legs so it felt lighter and not so heavy. OBH designed metal cuffs at the cabinet base so the unit looks like a piece of furniture. This kitchen has all the function but still is beautiful. obrienharris.com

50% WIDER. 25% LONGER. TWICE AS DURABLE
Luxury Vinyl Plank, 5 mm x 9" x 60" (1.0 mm / 40 mil wear-layer)
Lifetime Residential Warranty, 20 year Commercial Warranty
Nordic simplicity. White floors can be challenging to use, but when pulled off correctly are extremely rewarding. An instant statement-maker, they often present the challenge of maintenance. For Nordland, we specifically created a slightly weathered pattern with darker knots, so that they do not reveal dirt as quickly.
REDEFINING DURABILITY
The most important specification for determining the durability of vinyl flooring is the thickness of the wear-layer. The best wear-layers are made of thick, clear virgin PVC, which covers the paper print-film that gives the floor its unique appearance. Once the wear-layer wears through, the paper is damaged and the floor will need replacement.
Most vinyl floors come with a 8-12 mil wear-layer (0.2-3 mm). The top commercial specs in the industry are higher, at 20-22 mil (0.5 mm). A select few manufacturers offer a "super" commercial spec of 28 mil (0.7 mm).
For Modin, we decided to set a new standard: 40 mil (1.0 mm) of premium virgin PVC. This allows us to offer an industry-leading 20 year Commercial Warranty (Lifetime Residential), compared to nearly all other commercial vinyl floors' 10 year Commercial Warranty.
Beyond our superior wear-layer, we also use a patented click mechanism for superior hold, and a ceramic-bead coating.
SIZE MATTERS
Wider and longer planks create a sense of space and luxury. Most vinyl floors come in 6" or 7" widths, and 36" or 48" lengths.
For Modin, we designed our planks to be 9" wide, and 60" long. This extra large size allows our gorgeous designs to be fully expressed.
DETAILS THAT COUNT
We made sure to get all the details right. Real texture, to create the feel of wire-brushed wood. Low sheen level, to ensure a natural look that wears well over time. 4-sided bevels, to more accurately emulate the look of real planks. When added together they help create the unique look that is Modin.
DESIGNS THAT INSPIRE
We spent nearly a year just focusing on our designs, to ensure they provide the right mix of color and depth. Focusing on timeless wire-brush and European Oak styles, as well as more contemporary modern washes, our collection offers truly beautiful design that is both functional and inspiring.

The homeowner’s goal for this kitchen remodel was to improve functionality and increase the home’s value. The existing kitchen was old and needed an update – cabinets were falling apart, the downdraft on the Jenn-Air range made it difficult to cook items correctly, there was little to no storage, lighting was insufficient. A poor layout dominated by a hook-shaped peninsula inhibited the ability to work efficiently
