As an architect herself, it says a lot that Johanna opted for IKEA cabinetry. “Price was a huge factor” she says. “Also, it was the ability to customize the drawers and shelves.” This was crucial because her existing cabinets had no adjustable shelves and she had lost a lot of storage space due to that inflexibility. “The large pull-out drawers (by the oven, dishwasher and coffee station, respectively) help us find our stuff much more easily and the soft close hinges make these cabinets more durable in the long run” she says. She concludes: “I liked that we had the option to DIY. IKEA makes it so you can build all the cabinets and drawers fairly easily, assuming you have enough space for all the assembled components. Some of my co-workers have had IKEA kitchens for years and the cabinets have maintained their quality.”

Kansas City Brick & Masonry is the craft of shaping rough pieces of rock into accurate geometrical shapes, at times simple, but some of considerable complexity, and then arranging the resulting stones, often together with mortar, to form structures. Quarrymen split veins, or sheets of rock, and extract the resulting blocks of stone from the ground. Sawyers cut these rough blocks into cuboids, to required size with diamond-tipped saws. The resulting block if ordered for a specific component is known as sawn six sides (SSS). Banker masons are workshop based, and specialize in working the stones into the shapes required by a building's design, this set out on templets and a bed mould. They can produce anything from stones with simple chamfers to tracery windows, detailed mouldings and the more classical architectural building masonry. When working a stone from a sawn block, the mason ensures that the stone is bedded in the right way, so the finished work sits in the building in the same orientation as it was formed on the ground. Occasionally though some stones need to be orientated correctly for the application; this includes voussoirs, jambs, coping sand cornice. The basic tools, methods and skills of the banker mason have existed as a trade for thousands of years. Carvers cross the line from craft to art, and use their artistic ability to carve stone into foliage, figures, animals or abstract designs. Fixer masons specialize in the fixing of stones onto buildings, using lifting tackle, and traditional lime mortars and grouts. The fireplace surround and mantel are original to the home but we wanted to update the brick, it was a very dark and unattractive orangy brown. We went with a simple lime wash. Lime wash preserves the breath-ability of the brick, allows the original texture to be preserved and enhanced, it allows more flexibility with how much of the original color we want to show through. The final result is beautiful and allows the fireplace to be a desired focal point once again.

Contemporary Triple Waterfall Feature – Poway, CA This clean and symmetrical design showcases the triple sheer-descent waterfall set into a modern block retaining wall, flowing into a polished river rock bed below. Centered with a decorative glass mosaic sphere, the feature creates a strong focal point while offering soothing sound and movement. Framing plantings — including evergreen shrubs and seasonal lavender — soften the structure and add color contrast against the crisp white fencing. On the maroon wall two grommet draperies installed over single windows. Fabric from Carole's Fabric, Berkus- Taupe with hardware set Westcott finials in pewter finish. The draperies rest right on the floor and can be draw opened or closed. The contracting fabric works great with the two tone walls as well as the pieces in the room. On the cream wall three stationary look Soft Roman shades by carole fabric's in fabric calabaro- natural. The shades are able to moved up and down by hand. Our client was looking for a stationary look of a valance with the ability to lower the shade is needed.
