Microclover and fescue grasses growing in. This was seeded into 1/2 to at most 3/4-1 inch deep aeration holes on 2 x 2 to 1 x 1 inch spacings. These seed "pockets" hold moisture and protect new seedlings from compression until they've grown out of the holes and start tillering together. Outstanding results from a simple yet effective planting technique. No mulch necessary, and because the seed is so close to the surface, it germinates even faster than grass seed covered by various mulches.
