It is the first lake in a five-lake series called the Tallulah River Watershed that follows the original course of the Tallulah River. The lake was built in a deep valley located along a 10 mile section of the Tallulah River. The Lake Burton Dam was closed on December 22, 1919 and the lake started to fill. The dam is a gravity concrete dam, with a height of 128 feet and a span of 1,100 feet. The spillway is equipped with eight gates 22 feet wide by 6.6 feet high. The total capacity at an elevation of 1,866.6 feet is 108,000 acre-ft, of which 106,000 acre-ft is usable storage. The generating capacity of the dam is 6,120 kilowatts (two units).Lake Burton is the highest Georgia Power lake in Georgia. Lake Burton gets its named from the town of Burton, which was the second largest town in Rabun County with a population of approximately 200 but now lies below the lake's surface. The town (and the lake) was named after local prominent citizen Jeremiah Burton and was situated along the road from Clayton, Georgia to the Nacoochee Valley. Andrew Jackson Ritchie served as the postmaster for the area for several years. Gold was first discovered in Rabun County where Dicks Creek and the Tallulah River come together and was the reason for the town's founding in the early 1800s. The Lake Burton Fish Hatchery and Moccasin Creek State Park are located on the western side of the lake. Lake Burton is home to several species of fish, including Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass, White Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, White Catfish, Walleye, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Yellow Perch. The residents of Lake Burton are a mix of permanent residents and seasonal vacationers who together make-up the Lake Burton Civic Association, a local organization who goal is to maintain the lake through volunteer clean-ups and other such events. Andrew Mikhael of Andrew Mikhael Architect and Artistic Tile Design Associate Susan Jarblum collaborated on this beautiful new addition to a Milburn, NJ residence. The successful re-imagining of an unused side porch into a ground floor bath created the perfect canvas for the application of Artistic Tile's stunning Ferrara marble in a stylish Chevron. The marble runs across the floor and back wall of the shower while Quemere Liquid Glaze 3x6 handmade ceramic tiles wrap the walls and shower ceiling. What a beautiful project!

Transitional bathrooms are defined as combining elements of one design era with those of another. Oftentimes the design elements are from adjacent eras, where one prevalent design and decoration style began to give way to another. A shower stall can also carry a transitional theme forward. An open format, stand-up shower with glass walls and doors strikes a particularly modern pose. By pairing this design with the traditional bearing of a large porcelain tiles, to add even greater visual interest, artisanal aesthetic and gravity to the design, different design influences and eras can be seamlessly incorporated. Mixing and matching modern or vintage toilet designs is also an option, as they too can create contrast with contemporary or traditional elements of a transitional design.

While preserving the rich history of the gravity flow winery originally built in the 1800’s, FDC carefully renovated Murrieta’s Well, to make it the perfect setting for a special event. By adding a new terrace, landscaping, patios, and parking lot, the first impression of Murrieta’s Well is quite inviting. The first floor of the event space was expanded to make room for a new lobby entrance, waiter station, prep area, and storage room. The old stairs were removed and replaced with new stairs and an elevator to help take guests to the second floor. The upstairs was completely repurposed. Once lending home to offices, this space now houses a hospitality room, two tasting bars, bathrooms, kitchen, and a bridal suite

Inspiration for a timeless kitchen remodel in New Orleans

Small spaces deserve big design. For this Flower Mound powder room, we turned a standard wall into a work of art using a floor-to-ceiling Herringbone Tile Accent. Installing heavy tile in a vertical herringbone pattern is technically difficult—gravity works against you, and every cut at the ceiling and floor must be precise. Our in-house tile artisans executed this perfectly, ensuring the pattern remained centered and straight. The "Operator" Execution: The Tile Work: We used a textured, Taupe Brick-Look Porcelain laid in a herringbone pattern to add height and drama to the small room. By running the tile all the way behind the vanity and mirror, we created a seamless, high-end look. The Vanity: To keep the small footprint feeling open, we installed a Modern White Floating Vanity. This requires precise blocking behind the wall for support—structural work our team handled before the tile went up. The Stone: We topped the vanity with a Carrara-Look White Quartz featuring a thick mitered edge. Fabricated by our shop, Stonemeyer Granite, this edge profile gives the stone a substantial, luxurious feel that standard thin countertops lack. The Finish: A large Mirrored-Frame Mirror and polished nickel fixtures bounce light around the room, contrasting beautifully with the matte tile texture. Sufficient gravel is crucial to a well-drained retaining wall. With a gravity wall such as this, one of the design goals is to out-weigh the weight of the earth behind it. There is over 30,000 pounds of material in this wall -- the foundation, the wall itself, and the tremendous amount of gravel behind it.

This extensive Tiburon interior and exterior remodel required numerous major structural retrofits to the framing and foundations to bring the home from the original 1970s structural codes to present standards. It also included infrastructure upgrades to all utilities: electrical, data, HVAC and plumbing. A new elevator was installed, along with remodeled bathrooms and kitchen. This exterior remodel saw all new landscaping as well as a system to collect rainwater for irrigation. The new outdoor kitchen by the re-finished pool made the backyard a self-contained destination spot for the enjoyment of the spectacular bridges-and-city views. The original waterproofing infrastructure had also failed and so required significant repair and restructuring, including over 1000 square feet of decking, new stucco for the entire home, and extreme waterproofing details for the windows and deck railing attachments to manage the near-horizontal rains experienced on the hilltops in the area. BSI also installed a fully engineered gravity drainage system to manage the spring water coming up into the center of the home with a completely automated pump back-up system to ensure a warm, dry home for the client.
