Besides space constraints, there were budget concerns to consider in this NYC apartment kitchen renovation. Design choices were made throughout the rest of the apartment remodel to come in under budget, and of course, on time! We included absolutely everything to make this a dream kitchen from top of the line appliances from Bertazzoni, Liebherr and Miele to signature space saving touches and custom storage solutions nestled in bespoke contemporary shaker cabinets - - like a sink tilt out, garbage roll outs, and spice cabinets - - which make this space feel and function like a much bigger kitchen. We also know that a small space doesn't need to be short on style! We decided this kitchen deserved a custom crown. This is my signature design to incorporate the plaster cove crowns throughout the apartment, only in the millwork version. This contemporary take on a prewar crown was just what was needed! Finally, we needed some pizzazz and added the Firenzecolor Swahili silver architectural coated wall which is front and center from the outside looking in to the kitchen. We achieved our goal: to create an elegant, eye catching center of attention in this tiny kitchen. This small kitchen is now a contemporary pièce de résistance in a timeless prewar building and it's wonderful to know that in the process of creating a modern, warm urban dream kitchen for this lovely client, we also changed her life! Giallo Traversella granite was used on the perimeter countertops to tie together the greens and beige tones of the cabinetry and we used John Boos, walnut butcher block countertop for the island to compliment wood tones from the existing millwork in the home. The customer provided me with an inspiration picture for a backsplash, she knew she wanted a glass patterned backsplash. Ceramic Tiles International had released their Debut Petal mosaic tile and the customer loved it. Prior to the remodel, the kitchen was very dark and very crowded, it did not function in a way that worked for my customer. We added under cabinet LED lights, one general ceiling fixture and LED Brio Disc lights with dimming capabilities so the customers could adjust the lighting to their specific needs. Split Level 1970 home of a young and active family of four. The main pubic spaces in this home were remodeled to create a fresh, clean look. The Jack + Mare demo'd the kitchen and dining room down to studs and removed the wall between the kitchen/dining and living room to create an open concept space with a clean and fresh new kitchen and dining with ample storage. Now the family can all be together and enjoy one another's company even if mom or dad is busy in the kitchen prepping the next meal. The custom white cabinets and the blue accent island (and walls) really give a nice clean and fun feel to the space. The island has a gorgeous local solid slab of wood on top. A local artisan salvaged and milled up the big leaf maple for this project. In fact, the tree was from the University of Portland's campus located right where the client once rode the bus to school when she was a child. So it's an extra special custom piece! (fun fact: there is a bullet lodged in the wood that is visible...we estimate it was shot into the tree 30-35 years ago!) The 'public' spaces were given a brand new waterproof luxury vinyl wide plank tile. “Another obstacle was choosing the cabinet sizes where the upper and lower cabinets were aligned. Since IKEA only offers specific widths, we had to figure out how to evenly distribute them based on the entire width of our wall,” she says. Midtown East LET THE LIGHT IN Midtown East- Residence This project began with the client’s concerns about moving into a low and dim apartment that had north facing windows with a view of a construction site. We began with the concept of an all-white kitchen to reflect light in back of the apartment and make the apartment feel lighter. The finish of the cabinetry is high gloss white thermafoil against custom polished chrome handles and fixtures. The appliances are seamlessly concealed. The ceiling has been dropped to highlight this area with spot pendants and adjustable recessed lights. Track Lighting is also used through the apartment to allow for adjustable projections. High Gloss Pebble Caesarstone is the finish that is carried throughout the apartment, on the kitchen counters, backsplash, island and on the radiator millwork in both the living and bedroom to reflect the light from the windows. The custom shades double fabric system allow alternating light as well as privacy and their texture create a radiating glow along the ribbon windows. The double door into the bedroom was removed and instead one sliding door was created to allow there to be a wall to mount television screens on both sides. The Bathroom’s East wall subway tile was removed and replace with reflective light blue glass tile and all new polished chrome hardware for the sink and shower body. Millwork is done in a silver walnut.

The ability to alter and adjust components addresses concerns for accessibility. The shower seat is moveable or removable. The curved grab bar is functional and attractive. The sliding glass shower door can be partially or completely removed. The Hansgrohe hand shower is placed on an adjustable bar making it possible to shower in a seated or standing position. The thermostatic shower control features an anti-scald safety stop to protect against water scalding. The shower controls are placed at the shower entrance. This allows the water temperature and flow to be properly adjusted before immersing body parts in the water. Not only is the toilet comfort height, the skirted design simplifies cleaning and the dual flush is environmentally friendly.
