I posted the after picture first, not wanting the first picture of this album to be of crumbling white plaster. There were many goals from the client when creating this hall display. In the case of this entry display, it has three words; Change Your Life. Very important words to my client. A Mantra he has lived by as he fought for his life through a 6 year rehabilitation. Words he never forgets. Words he believes in and wants everyone to know and believe in. 7 mirrors. A specific number for a memorable date, and mirrors required for a personal belief about mirrors facing a door. The sounds of peaceful running water. Soothing, healing and spiritual. Organic healing plants, many easy to maintain succulents, and finally a transitional industrial style lamp with a grow bulb that does double duty as a night light in a hall with no electrical outlets for a night light. Inspiration for a mid-sized modern partial sun concrete paver landscaping in Vancouver.

This is not just any project. This is not just any house. This is a house of healing. My beloved and infinitely inspiring brother, Yeshaia Blakeney owns and runs this treatment center, The Integrity House. When my brother approached me about decorating this 7000 square foot Mediteranean home in Brentwood, I was thrilled. When he told me we had 2 weeks to complete this mission I was, well, admittedly a little bit freaked out. With the indispensable help of Emily, my brothers’ wife and powerhouse, we scoured LA to find a harmonious blend of vintage & contemporary furnishings and art, that would bring this house to life. But, before this creative process, before the decor and the art, I brought the sage and we all sat down on the living room floor, my mother lead the ceremony and we blessed the house. We focused on creating a nurturing space that would help the family and their guests unwind and heal from the stress of everyday life. An eclectic mix of wood finishes and tones, metals and neutral color palettes create a strong connection to the natural lakeside environment right outside the home. The main living space features a two-story wall of windows, treated only with simple floor-to-ceiling sheers to keep the beautiful lake views as the focal point. The bright, airy space is grounded by an eclectic collection of seating, perfect for a family gathering or a retreat meeting. Our focus was on creating a home that would inspire and heal anyone who enters it, both the family enjoying their vacations and the people invited there for retreats. Through careful consideration of materials and the purpose of this home, we revealed a nurturing and peaceful atmosphere that would refocus people’s awareness to the exquisite natural surroundings.

A nature-integrated wellness and retreat campus in Cotati designed to support the mental and physical recovery of first responders through healing landscapes and community-focused spaces.

Selected as one of four designers to the prestigious DXV Design Panel to design a space for their 2018-2020 national ad campaign || Inspired by 21st Century black & white architectural/interior photography, in collaboration with DXV, we created a healing space where light and shadow could dance throughout the day and night to reveal stunning shapes and shadows. With retractable clear skylights and frame-less windows that slice through strong architectural planes, a seemingly static white space becomes a dramatic yet serene hypnotic playground; igniting a new relationship with the sun and moon each day by harnessing their energy and color story. Seamlessly installed earthy toned teak reclaimed plank floors provide a durable grounded flow from bath to shower to lounge. The juxtaposition of vertical and horizontal layers of neutral lines, bold shapes and organic materials, inspires a relaxing, exciting, restorative daily destination.

Who says Utility rooms need to be boring? These homeowners needed several storage solutions and had an unfinished basement just waiting for their personal touches. First off - they needed a utility sink located near their laundry appliances. Second they needed wine storage, general storage and file storage. They found just what they were looking for with custom cabinetry by Dewils in their Fenix slab door featuring nanotechnology! A soft touch, self-healing and anti-fingerprint finish (Thermal healing of microscratches - cool!) Interior drawers keep their wine organized and easy to access. They jazzed up the white finish with Wilsonart Quartz in "Key West", colorful backsplash tile in ocean hues and knobs featuring starfish and wine grapes.
