The Movember Foundation is a men’s health charity that is committed to helping men live happier, healthier and longer lives. Silverado Salvage and Design worked with the Movember Foundation corporate office to create 37 tables and a barbershop for their corporate headquarters.

Creating environments that encourage our families to spend more time outdoors is important in today’s hi-tech world. Designed for the 2014 Chicago Flower and Garden show, this display garden captures a playful sensibility well-suited for any family to enjoy. The clean, modern lines and carefully planned spaces of this 50’ by 50’ garden form an enticing setting to simply unplug. Working within a very limited area, the design organizes a bio pool with sundeck, a spillover water feature and lounge area, and a gravel dining terrace with a built-in fireplace and shade tree canopy. Unlike traditional pools, our bio pool utilizes aquatic plants, beneficial bacteria, and microbes, rather than harsh chemicals, to filter the water. Impurities and excess nutrients are drawn out of the water naturally, creating a much healthier swimming environment. A native plant palette is incorporated throughout the garden with shade trees, ornamentals, native forbs, and perennials in an emergent spring landscape. We hope this exciting design will encourage green inspiration for visitors, whether they have a tight city lot or a larger suburban property.

The owner of this distinguished Somerville late Victorian wanted not just a new kitchen, but a more efficient and healthier house overall. The challenge wasn’t just to capture the light and view towards the Boston skyline; we also needed to improve the space plan and work flow. Overlaid on those goals, we needed to respect the carefully maintained Victorian character of the rest of the home and bring that sensibility back into the kitchen space. OPENING THE SPACE We removed the wall that isolated the sink space to create one unified kitchen area. We relocated the sink to a center island so that we could replace the small window with a large sliding glass door out onto the deck and the view of the skyline. REPURPOSING MATERIALS We salvaged and re-used the honey-colored southern yellow pine wainscoting; we matched and extended it to a window seat and laundry room door to create continuity and tie those new elements to the old. The cabinets and counters have traditional styling in light colors to reflect the light from the new sliding doors deep into the space. More light from the rear utility stairs is brought into the space by means of a frosted glass door. IMPROVING EFFICIENCY More prosaically, but just as important to the client and the project team, we upgraded the insulation and air-sealing throughout the house to improve the home’s comfort and efficiency. Purpose: feed and heal the poor, senior residents with healthier local fruit grown onsite.

A symphony of design elements converges to create a space that not only reflects my professional ethos but also serves as a haven for inspiration. At the forefront of the room are nine floating metal portfolio prints, each encapsulating a unique design narrative. These prints are more than decorations; they are windows into the journey as an interior designer, weaving a tapestry of experiences and influences that have shaped my craft. Positioned strategically, a 43" LG 4k TV graces the wall, with integrated Philips Hue lighting behind it casting a soft, ambient glow. Flanked by custom ebony veneer columns, this entertainment hub seamlessly combines modern technology with bespoke craftsmanship, creating a visual spectacle that enhances both work and leisure moments. Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the ambiance. Recessed square LED lights illuminate the space, while two incandescent wall sconces add a touch of warmth. All of this is seamlessly orchestrated through Lutron Caseta WiFi switches, allowing me to curate the perfect lighting atmosphere for any occasion. Functionality meets aesthetics with Merillat cabinetry thoughtfully integrated into the design. These cabinets discreetly store away office supplies and materials, maintaining a clutter-free environment conducive to focus and creativity. The ebony veneer theme extends to the custom columns, creating a visual harmony throughout the space. The pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the standing desk, a marvel of modern design and functionality. Its programmable feature allows for up to four memorized heights, catering to my ergonomic preferences throughout the workday. This dynamic element not only promotes a healthier work lifestyle but also symbolizes the adaptability and innovation that define my approach to interior design. In this carefully curated home office, every detail tells a story, and every element serves a purpose. It is a reflection of our passion for design, where form and function coalesce to create a space that not only meets professional needs but nurtures the spirit of creativity and innovation.

Our alternative design was to build a new house in front of the bungalow and in line with the neighbouring houses. Approval was soon granted and Alex got to work building his new sustainable home while the family lived in the bungalow behind. On completion, the bungalow was demolished and replaced with a living room extension and a fabulous swimming pool. The timber framed house was built to very high standards using natural insulation and interior finishes to create a healthier indoor space for the family. An air-source heat pump heats the home, hot water and the swimming pool. A palette of natural materials keeps embodied emissions low and respects the local vernacular of the village setting.
