The open connection between the kitchen and the existing dining room has been maintained, but the new galley configuration is much more spacious and efficient.

Renovation and restoration of a classic Eastlake row house in San Francisco. The historic façade was the only original element of the architecture that remained, the interiors having been gutted during successive remodels over years. In partnership with Angela Free Interior Design, we designed elegant interiors within a new envelope that restored the lost architecture of its former Victorian grandeur. Artisanal craftspeople were employed to recreate the complexity and beauty of a bygone era. The result was a complimentary blending of modern living within an architecturally significant interior.

The divider wall display cabinets have reeded glass doors on both sides. The reflectivity and transparency of the glass further enhances the connection between the kitchen and breakfast area.

Example of a cottage bedroom design in DC Metro

Top to bottom interior and exterior renovation of an existing Edwardian home in a park-like setting on a cul-de-sac in San Francisco. The owners enjoyed a substantial collection of paintings, sculpture and furniture collected over a lifetime, around which the project was designed. The detailing of the cabinets, fireplace surrounds and mouldings reflect the Art Deco style of their furniture collection. The white marble tile of the Master Bath features a walk-in shower and a lit onyx countertop that suffuses the room with a soft glow.

This outdoor living environment with gardens, pool and social areas overlooks the surrounding vineyard, serving as a center for family gatherings and entertaining. The new pool house blends with the existing residence and features changing and bathing rooms, an outdoor kitchen and fire place. Terraced retaining walls contain planter beds for edible gardens. Located in a bucolic area of Marin County, just outside of San Rafael, the original ranch residence had been inconsistently remodeled over the years. The interior spaces had eight foot ceilings and were lifted in key areas of the house to expand the spaciousness and emit light. New fenestration and full height glass doors allow for wonderful light and improved connection to the outdoors. While keeping much of the existing structure the home was completely remodeled to expand the exterior living space with new decks, trellises, an outdoor kitchen and fireplace.

Inspiration for a modern bathroom remodel in DC Metro

This residence was designed as a series of linked pavilions inspired by the relationship to nature found in traditional Japanese vernacular architecture. The site was conceived and planned in collaboration with Brent Cottong, landscape architect, creating an integration of interior and exterior living spaces, view corridors and site lines. The home was sited around existing natural elements that include a heritage Coast Live Oak tree, a stand of redwoods and a seasonal creek. The interior of the house glows with natural light that suffuses the space. The geometry and fenestration maximize natural light and incorporate energy efficient climate-responsive solar design principles. Solar orientation photographs were taken throughout the site, on which a solar study was based, contributing to the generation of the design.
