A modern Mediterranean, large open spaces, exquisite views of the city and the hills of Bel Air .. Contemporary furnishings set in an adventerous palette of juxtaposed colors. Wit, humor, juxtaposition of sculptural furnishings, music and art enhance these surroundings.

A big advantage to the property is its one-car garage, something that is notoriously hard to come by in Manhattan. "The motorcycle shop already had the makings of a garage, and we could use that for our cars", Novogratz explains. Taking up the entire ground floor, the garage and entrance raise the home well off of street level, which affords the family privacy and isolation from the sounds of the roadway outside. The couple commissioned British Pop artist Richard Woods to create an installation on the home's facade. The faux bois panels lend visual interest to the exterior, as well as a good dose of humor. This formal living room was just too formal and serious for the personalities of the homeowners. We toned down the formality with the artwork: a subtly humorous piece know as "Spider Moo".

Photo: Adrienne DeRosa © 2015 Houzz Weiss and Carpenter chose to outfit the guest bath in a way that perfectly exemplifies their design philosophy of old-meets-new. Fashioned from an antique butchers freezer, the vanity maintains all of its original features, including the wooden top and worn paint. "Keeping elements from the past not only interests us aesthetically," explains Will, "it also works with our strong held dedication to environmentally sensitive construction. Our view is that by repurposing antiques and found objects, we can lessen our carbon footprint and minimize our individual effect on the environ- ment." Following the industrial vibe of the vanity, an antique French pendant hangs above. Finished in dark green enamel, it is a subtle statement piece in the room. The overall arrangement of the space comes together with encaustic mission tile. Graphic and lively, the cement tiles grace the room with a sophisticated sense of humor.
