The original kitchen included 2 islands which broke up the expansive space, giving it a choppy feel. To open up the space, we eliminated the two smaller islands and replaced them with one large island which included a built-in microwave drawer and round prep sink. New cabinets in the island and around the perimeter, including drawers with a peg system for storing dishes and heavy items provide ample storage. Top-of-the-line appliances include a French door oven, coffee machine, ice machine and electric cooktop. The unique granite countertop in leathered colonial cream, combined with the new Julien Fireclay farm sink and Dover white backsplash tile in herringbone pattern give the space a rich, elegant yet contemporary feel. About the photo: The cabinets are Mastro Rosolino - our private line of cabinetry. The finish on the perimeter is paint and glazed, the bar and islands are walnut with a stain and glaze. The cabinet style is beaded inset. The hearth features one of our custom reclaimed tin hoods- only available through us. The countertops are Grey-Gold limestone, 2 1/2" thick. The backsplash is polished travertine, chiard, and honey onyx. The backsplash was done by Stratta in Wyckoff, NJ. The flooring is tumbled travertine. The appliances are: Sub-zero BI48S/O, Viking 60" dual fuel range, Viking dishwasher, Viking VMOC206 micro, Viking wine refrigerator, Marvel ice machine. This is a small living room right off the entry to a larger home. The clients wanted this space to set the tone for the home as one that is sophisticated and fun. Kitchen in a 1926 bungalow, done to my client's brief that it should look 'original' to the house. The three 'jewels' of the kitchen are the immaculately restored 1928 Wedgwood high-oven stove, the SubZero refrigerator/freezer designed to look like an old-fashioned ice box, and the island referencing a farmhouse table with pie-save cabinet underneath, done in ebonized oak and painted bead-board. The red Marmoleum floor has double inlaid borders, the counters are honed black granite, and the walls, cabinets, and trim are all painted a soft ocher-based cream-colour taken from a 1926 DutchBoy paint deck. Virtually everything is custom, save the sink, faucets, and pulls, done to my original designs. The Bosch dishwasher, washer, and dryer are all hidden in the cabinetry. Christmas holiday design for an amazing animal conservation ranch in Texas. Our goal was to deliver a holiday scheme indicative of rustic Texas. For year 2012 our look was to design with a color palette of forest green, rust, brown, cream and gold pulling from the use of natural elements, often found on the ranch, such as pheasant and ostrich feathers, deer sheds, lichen covered branches, beautiful vintage fowl and small critter taxidermy, massive pine comes, silver birch branches etc.. mixed with vintage wood skis, copper bladed ice skates, rustic lanterns, etc..
