This “Arizona Inspired” home draws on some of the couples’ favorite desert inspirations. The architecture honors the Wrightian design of The Arizona Biltmore, the courtyard raised planter beds feature labeled specimen cactus in the style of the Desert Botanical Gardens, and the expansive backyard offers a resort-style pool and cabana with plenty of entertainment space. Additional focal areas of landscape design include an outdoor living room in the front courtyard with custom steel fire trough, a shallow negative-edge fountain, and a rare “nurse tree” that was salvaged from a nearby site, sits in the corner of the courtyard – a unique conversation starter. The wash that runs on either side of the museum-glass hallway is filled with aloes, agaves and cactus. On the far end of the lot, a fire pit surrounded by desert planting offers stunning views both day and night of the Praying Monk rock formation on Camelback Mountain. The woodland garden, a mix of New England natives, provides an immersive setting for an ipe deck sitting atop a fieldstone retaining wall.
This is an example of a traditional backyard retaining wall landscape in Boston for fall.

Three terraces define the rear of the property. Immediate to the house a bluestone patio decends a subtle stair to the garden terrace where a vegetable garden is planned. The lower terrace in the foreground is kept open allowing for flexible use. A mature Japanese Maple is protected by a new retaining wall making it the spatial anchor of the rear garden.

This footpath marks a friends and neighbors path through a side garden leading up to the lawn terrace level. The garden sits at the corner of the lot and surrounds an existing post office box creating a casual neighborhood meeting space.

Basement - transitional basement idea in Kansas City

This 1600+ square foot basement was a diamond in the rough. We were tasked with keeping farmhouse elements in the design plan while implementing industrial elements. The client requested the space include a gym, ample seating and viewing area for movies, a full bar , banquette seating as well as area for their gaming tables - shuffleboard, pool table and ping pong. By shifting two support columns we were able to bury one in the powder room wall and implement two in the custom design of the bar. Custom finishes are provided throughout the space to complete this entertainers dream.

A low corten steel retaining wall curves as grade wraps around the face of wall. The curvature of the wall is artistic but the curve strengthens the length of the wall. Corten steel is 3/8" thick and was rolled and brought to site in sections.
