Coming from the Bay area, our clients spend a lot of time in Tahoe and therefore purchased a vacation home within close proximity to Heavenly Mountain. Their intention was to utilize the three-bedroom, three-bathroom, single-family home as a vacation rental but also as a part-time, second home for themselves. Being a vacation rental, budget was a top priority. We worked within our clients’ parameters to create a mountain modern space with the ability to sleep 10, while maintaining durability, functionality and beauty. We’re all thrilled with the result. Set on ten acres abutting protected conservation land, the zoning for this site allowed for a creative multi-unit residential project. The design concept created a sustainable modern farm community of three distinct structures. A sense of individuality is established between the buildings, while a comprehensive site design references historic farms with a home-like, residential scale. An existing structure was renovated to house three condo units, featuring sliding barn doors and floor-to-ceiling storefront glass in the great room, with 25’ ceilings. Across a circular cobblestone drive, a new house and barn structure houses two condo units. Connecting both units, a garage references a carriage house and barn with small square windows above and large bays at ground level to mimic barn bays. There is no parking lot for the site – instead garages and a few individual parking spaces preserve the scale of a natural farm property. Patios and yards in the rear of each unit offer private access to the lush natural surroundings and space for entertaining.

Location: Bucktown, Chicago, IL, United States This was a dream job for a new designer and will always be one of my favorite projects. This was a new construction single family home built by Lucas Properties for a young family with newborns. We were able to pick everything from the door knobs to fixtures and give this family the contemporary look they wanted. In the combined kitchen, family room and dining room, I was able to carve out individual areas that all flowed together. One of the unique features that I designed was having exposed brick run throughout all five levels of the home. I also had a lot of fun designing the fire place wall with individual niches to display their art objects.

The custom wine cellar door is the initial invitation to enter this spacious cellar that accommodates over 1300 bottles of wine. A combination of individual bottle bins, solid diamond bins, magnum bins and pull out case storage shelves and solid cabinet shelving provides a home for the various sized bottles. Front load stemware holders are tucked within the sides of arch and the reclaimed wine barrel "cooperage" table top provides a perfect place to decant the wines. This stunning outdoor covered patio showcases the Quarry Mill's Denali thin stone veneer. Denali natural stone veneer is a high density sandstone cut into rough rectangles forming the castle rock style. The stone gets its abundance of color from the heavy mineral staining.
