Our goal for the comprehensive renovation of this apartment was to maintain the vocabulary of this majestic pre-war structure. We enlarged openings and added transoms above to allow the infiltration of daylight into the Foyer. We created a Library in a deep saturated mahogany and completely replaced the Kitchen and Pantry, which were vintage 1960’s. Several years later, our client asked to have her home office relocated to the Living Room. We modified the layout, locating the office along the north facing windows, with office and entertainment equipment located in an armoire customized for this use. Concrete – New ideas for Kitchens. In a minimalist setting, “concrete” always presents a strong presences in the room. In the handle-less CONCRETE-A kitchens from LEICHT , the dark grey furniture with a surface of genuine concrete (brasilia), provide an impressive visual centre. Island unit and cupboard run are offset by white tall units, integrated in the wall. The island unit rises freely into the room between the generous window surfaces, almost floating above the light floor. An asymmetric, almost playful, wall shelf unit loosens the calm arrangement of the handle-less floor units. The 5 mm thick worktop of hot-rolled steel provides an extremely elegant contrast to the concrete surfaces of the kitchen fronts.

Part of the couple's draw to an eclectic style was based on the premise of each getting what they wanted out of the space. Although it may have initially posed a challenge to integrate Chelsea and Kiel's personal styles, the living room combines the two in perfect harmony. "Kiel tends to gravitate toward more masculine, rustic, and industrial pieces while I like more bright, colorful and whimsical pieces", states Chelsea. The mid-century chair and ottoman were found at a garage sale for $5 and reupholstered by Kiel's mother. Unassuming doses of color and pattern lend a light-hearted quality to the grouping.
