The architecture and site are carefully crafted to maintain an intimate scale and are independent from parking areas with gradually sloping paths meandering through the large existing tree canopy to each private entry. Guests enjoy an extraordinary lake view, framed by mature oak trees that obscure the view of the structures from the water. Rain gardens and limited excavation minimize site disturbance while protecting the quality of the lake water, as well as maintain the existing site character. With sensitive architectural and site collaboration, this project has created a fully accessible escape destination nestled into a sliver of land. These lakefront cottages encourage the non-traditional campground visitor to take a step into the outdoor experience.

The cabinetry features a deep brown stain and custom double-beaded Shaker door profile, giving the vanity depth and a furniture-like quality. Bright brass hardware and plumbing fixtures introduce warmth and refinement, creating a striking contrast against the dark wood. A honed quartz countertop and backsplash bring softness and subtle movement to the composition. Extending the backsplash to eight inches—double the standard height—creates a more substantial, custom appearance while providing additional wall protection. A gently curved edge softens the vanity’s linear form and adds another considered layer of detail. This project was designed for a couple who lives in Florida but wanted to create a mountain getaway here in Virginia. This was a dramatic, full home renovation project which converted a 1970’s vinyl siding covered, quasi-modern home into a cozy yet open, mountain lodge retreat with breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge mountains. A large wrap around porch was added as well as a beautiful screened in porch for the enjoyment and full appreciation of the surrounding landscapes. While the overall interior layout remained relatively unchanged, new elements were introduced, such as a two-story stone fireplace, a residential elevator, a new master bedroom, updated kitchen and reclaimed wood paneling finishing the walls. While you catch a glimpse of the stunning vista while approaching the house, the full view is best appreciated from the new screened in porch or cedar hot tub which sets you right out into nature.
