For their desert home, my goal was to create a new experience with each space while maintaining flow. This required striking a balance between organic light/airy spaces and glam dark/moody spaces. The finishes specified ranged from blackened steel, walnut, polished brass, rubbed plaster, digital wallcovering and back lit quartz to name a few. When a space draws you in closer to investigate there is a moment of discovery that elicits an emotional response. These spaces do just that. From sublime light fixtures to cozy seating vignettes, this home is a beautiful sanctuary - a place to entertain friends and family both indoors and out. It is a poised exercise in effortless, relaxed, edgy luxe design.

Natural light and its inherent mutability are the focus of this architectural investigation. Here it is used as a material to enhance one’s experience of the space and understanding of the sun’s movement across the sky. Different areas of activity within the open space are accentuated by clusters of light wells located over the dining table and kitchen island. Each light well has a different orientation to the sky that brings in varied and undulating shafts of light during the day. A single continuous slice of natural light at the perimeter defines a “proscenium” of the ceiling plane and produces the same play of light and shadow across the vertical surfaces. The Owners of this boathouse on Lake Rosseau approached us to modify the existing structure. Classic Muskoka Homes prepared a Fixed-Price proposal for the construction of a new sloped roof structure for the existing boathouse which had an existing flat roof. Work got underway with demolition & framing work on the roof structure. Upon investigation, it was determined that water ingress had caused damage to a wall and dock stringer timber along the boathouse's South wall. Port Sandfield Dockworks Incorporated performed repair work on the dock. We subsequently repaired the rotted wall framing in boathouse South wall. New shingle roofing, board & batten siding, aluminum soffit & fascia were installed to integrate a fresh look for the boathouse. This boathouse building project was completed within approximately one (1) month in 2013.

Our clients, a lovely couple with two kids, asked us to renovate their dated Kitchen. Although they were happy with its existing layout, the cupboards were worn out, and did not provide optimal storage. Through detailed investigation and design, we created an updated space, tailored to their needs. New custom-built cabinets with modern contemporary finishes not only provided optimal storage solutions, but a fresh, update to the Kitchen. Larger countertops provided a more functional preparation area and were complimented beautifully with a matching backsplash. Re-grouting the floor tiles throughout the Kitchen and Main Floor made the floors look like new again. Updated lighting and paint with soft undertones provide a warm, welcoming feeling. Overall, the personalized details and updates increased both the functionality and comfort for our clients, creating a home that is unmistakably theirs.

'Noblesse Series' In this continuing series of paintings, Michelle investigates undulation and shifting thresholds in environments and memories. Her technique includes accumulating layers of acrylic emulsion and brush dragging across a chosen substrate. This process allows for slick, waxy surfaces on which to apply the paint with brush, palette knife and rag.
