Our new clients lived in a charming Spanish-style house in the historic Larchmont area of Los Angeles. Their kitchen, which was obviously added later, was devoid of style and desperately needed a makeover. While they wanted the latest in appliances they did want their new kitchen to go with the style of their house. The en trend choices of patterned floor tile and blue cabinets were the catalysts for pulling the whole look together.

When this suburban family decided to renovate their kitchen, they knew that they wanted a little more space. Advance Design worked together with the homeowner to design a kitchen that would work for a large family who loved to gather regularly and always ended up in the kitchen! So the project began with extending out an exterior wall to accommodate a larger island and more moving-around space between the island and the perimeter cabinetry. Style was important to the cook, who began collecting accessories and photos of the look she loved for months prior to the project design. She was drawn to the brightness of whites and grays, and the design accentuated this color palette brilliantly with the incorporation of a warm shade of brown woods that originated from a dining room table that was a family favorite. Classic gray and white cabinetry from Dura Supreme hits the mark creating a perfect balance between bright and subdued. Hints of gray appear in the bead board detail peeking just behind glass doors, and in the application of the handsome floating wood shelves between cabinets. White subway tile is made extra interesting with the application of dark gray grout lines causing it to be a subtle but noticeable detail worthy of attention. Suede quartz Silestone graces the countertops with a soft matte hint of color that contrasts nicely with the presence of white painted cabinetry finished smartly with the brightness of a milky white farm sink. Old melds nicely with new, as antique bronze accents are sprinkled throughout hardware and fixtures, and work together unassumingly with the sleekness of stainless steel appliances. The grace and timelessness of this sparkling new kitchen maintains the charm and character of a space that has seen generations past. Details, details, details! This traditional kitchen remodel is full of them! Though soft and neutral, the use of dark cabinetry in unexpected places lends warmth and depth to the space. Our eyes are drawn to the custom hood and rich island cabinetry. The corners of these cabinets have a beautifully carved post detailing. The pendant lights add the perfect touch of glam, creating a sparkle when lit that highlights the hint of color in the mosaic design of the backsplash. What do you think of this design?

This was a dream project! The clients purchased this 1880s home and wanted to renovate it for their family to live in. It was a true labor of love, and their commitment to getting the details right was admirable. We rehabilitated doors and windows and flooring wherever we could, we milled trim work to match existing and carved our own door rosettes to ensure the historic details were beautifully carried through. Every finish was made with consideration of wanting a home that would feel historic with integrity, yet would also function for the family and extend into the future as long possible. We were not interested in what is popular or trendy but rather wanted to honor what was right for the home.

This industrial modern kitchen is full of great custom features. Custom white cabinetry and blue center island create a serene and beautiful kitchen. The custom open backed upper cabinetry allows for the beautiful hand glazed metallic tiles to be showcased. Marble Slab Backsplash We absolutely love this top kitchen trend! Marble slab backsplash is a gorgeous way to create elegant simplicity in your kitchen. Instead of tiling, a large slab is a nice option for minimalists. We’re also seeing that the strains within the marbling is getting bolder with heavier contrasts. It’s truly a work of art!
