Our most recent modern farmhouse in the west Willamette Valley is what dream homes are made of. Named “Starry Night Ranch” by the homeowners, this 3 level, 4 bedroom custom home boasts of over 9,000 square feet of combined living, garage and outdoor spaces. Well versed in the custom home building process, the homeowners spent many hours partnering with both Shan Stassens of Winsome Construction and Buck Bailey Design to add in countless unique features, including a cross hatched cable rail system, a second story window that perfectly frames a view of Mt. Hood and an entryway cut-out to keep a specialty piece of furniture tucked out of the way. From whitewashed shiplap wall coverings to reclaimed wood sliding barn doors to mosaic tile and honed granite, this farmhouse-inspired space achieves a timeless appeal with both classic comfort and modern flair.

For this project we manufactured custom length corten steel planters to fit specific perimeter dimensions of the roof deck. The planters are 36 inches high by 24 inches wide and approximately 44 inches long. The planters sit directly on the wood decking. Also the planters are raised of the decking by one inch to allow for irrigation tubing to be routed under the metal planter box. Photography by Shawn Records

Design: One SEED Architecture + Interiors (www.oneseed.ca) Photography: Eric Scott Photography (www.ericscottphotography.com) Builder: Vertical Grain Projects (verticalgrainprojects.com) The 1 000SF, two bed and two bath condo was a true fixer-upper with outdated finishes and a floor plan that needed refinement. The suite was gutted down to concrete and studs, taking down several walls in the process. The design was influenced by the character and materials of a converted New York loft, and using the vernacular West Coast Modern language, it was infused with warm wood accents, exposed concrete, and framed views of the North Shore mountains.

Tile choice: I chose a patterned tile and stoped the pattern at the threshold of the shower and changed materials. Both tiles have a rough "grip" but this is a curbless entry. The smaller tiles in the shower are dotted with "white" flowers to allow for depth perception.

This modern, one of a kind bathroom makes the best of the space small available. The shower itself features the top of the line Delta Trinsic 17 Series hand held shower and the Kohler Watertile flush mounted Rainhead as well as two niche shelves and a grab bar. The shower is set with a zero-entry, flush transition from the main bath and sports a bar drain to avoid under foot pooling with full height glass doors. Outside of the shower, the main attraction is the ultra-modern wall mounted Kohler commode with touchscreen controls and hidden tank.
