Our clients are from Indiana but have been coming to Northern Michigan for about 50 years. They originally learned about our firm through an article in Traverse the Magazine where our owner, Stephanie Baldwin, provided information about working with a design firm. They then toured a couple of our projects during a parade of homes and decided they were ready to hire for their family's cottage needs. They already owned a cottage on Walloon Lake, but were ready to design and build a new cottage in its place for more room for their family. They wanted low maintenance materials and a timeless, Northern Michigan lake cottage style. The ultimate design was completed to take advantage of the lake views and access as well as creating plenty of room for family to stay while considering aging in place. The end result is a stunning home that will be enjoyed by the entire family for generations to come.

In the backyard, lighting designer Jerry McKay up lit the trees within the pond area to give an aesthetically pleasing backdrop. An underwater light shines on each waterfall with a few spot lights shining directly at them. Underwater lights also illuminate the koi fish. "The multiple light sources make the space more intriguing and create interesting effects on the water. It's a nice focal point of the backyard, and the homeowners can enjoy it from their patio," McKay says. It started with a phone call inquiring about doing a basic deck remodel. When Chris Kehoe arrived on site to learn more about the home layout, budget, and timeline for the homeowners, it became clear that there was far more to the story. The family was looking for more than just a deck replacement. They were looking to rebuild an outdoor living space that fit lifestyle. There was so much more than what you can input into a contact form that they were considering when reaching out to Orange County Deck Co. They were picturing their dream outdoor living space, which included: - an inviting pool area - stunning hardscape to separate spaces - a secure, maintenance-free second level deck to improve home flow - space under the deck that could double as hosting space with cover - beautiful landscaping to enjoy while they sipped their glass of wine at sunset

A deck and patio in Omaha, Nebraska, has been transformed into a functional, family-friendly outdoor space with the perfect splash of light. Some enhancements to the previously uncovered deck and walkout patio made the outdoor space more functional so it can be used more often. The homeowners wanted a space they could enjoy on crisp fall or spring evenings that also protected them from the harsh afternoon sunlight in the summer. A new home can be beautiful, yet lack soul. For a family with exquisite taste, and a love of the artisan and bespoke, LiLu created a layered palette of furnishings that express each family member’s personality and values. One child, who loves Jackson Pollock, received a window seat from which to enjoy the ceiling’s lively splatter wallpaper. The other child, a young gentleman, has a navy tweed upholstered headboard and plaid club chair with leather ottoman. Elsewhere, sustainably sourced items have provenance and meaning, including a LiLu-designed powder-room vanity with marble top, a Dunes and Duchess table, Italian drapery with beautiful trimmings, Galbraith & Panel wallcoverings, and a bubble table. After working with LiLu, the family’s house has become their home. ---- Project designed by Minneapolis interior design studio LiLu Interiors. They serve the Minneapolis-St. Paul area including Wayzata, Edina, and Rochester, and they travel to the far-flung destinations that their upscale clientele own second homes in. ----- For more about LiLu Interiors, click here: https://www.liluinteriors.com/ ----- To learn more about this project, click here: https://www.liluinteriors.com/blog/portfolio-items/art-of-family/

No major renovation was needed in this home to achieve the family’s ideal area, therefore our team focused on lightening up the dark kitchen by painting the existing cabinetry, installing new countertops, backsplash and hardware. We also replaced the existing dark red cherry floors with solid oak floors that opened up the space. In working with the family on making sure their redesign met all of their needs, we learned that two of the client’s children have lung diseases that needed to be taken into account when making material selections. The new hardwood floors had to be solid wood and have no composite or glue, to mitigate anything synthetic. Thus, making sure their home was not only aesthetically pleasing for them but also a safe space to enjoy together for years to come.

Hidden Technology at It’s Best As you walk into this modern living space, you are greeted by the amble sunlight from the skylights and large window that extends from the ground to the ceiling. A pleasing space to enjoy a book next to the fireplace but it much more than that. With a press of a button, shades lower covering every window, blocking all sunlight. A screen descend from above the fireplace and a projector lowers from the ceiling. The Meridian speakers that were artfully accenting the room begin to play. This modern living space seamlessly is transitioned to a high performing theater room. Spire Integrated Systems Inc. specializes in the design and installation of award-winning theater systems that meet the lifestyle, decor and budget of the homeowner. In the comforts of your own home enjoy the dynamics of a full-screen viewing arena, complete with spectacular surround sound system, custom acoustical treatments, ambiance lighting, simple automated touch panel control and luxurious theater seating. Whether watching the latest high-definition cinematic astonishment, hearing every note of a composition, or partaking in a larger-than-life game experience, a home theater will enhance your home.
