Two bookcase/display cabinets and a corner china cabinet with concealed LED lighting. The tops, adjustable wood shelves, cabinet bottoms, and the door frame are made of solid Honduran mahogany reclaimed from the homeowner's mother's dining table, adding a respectful heirloom aspect to the project. The laser engraved star pattern on the top borders was designed to complement a beautiful hand-stenciled design on a console cabinet in the adjacent room. The bases were made with an Asian-influenced design to reflect the style of many other items in the home from the homeowner's years of working in Asia. The top surfaces and the solid mahogany bases were stained ebony to coordinate with the dining table and to provide a color break between the floor and the cabinets. All the other mahogany is simply clear coated to highlight the beautiful color and iridescence of mahogany. The tops and front and side borders were assembled using lock miter construction. The homeowners started by hiring an architect to develop a vision and plan for transforming their very traditional brick home into a contemporary family home full of modern updates. The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn was hired to provide kitchen design expertise and to bring the vision to life. The bamboo cabinetry and white Ceasarstone countertops provide contrast that pops while the white oak floors and limestone tile bring warmth to the space. A large island houses a Galley Sink which provides a multi-functional work surface fantastic for summer entertaining. And speaking of summer entertaining, a new Nana Wall system — a large glass wall system that creates a large exterior opening and can literally be opened and closed with one finger – brings the outdoor in and creates a very unique flavor to the space. Matching bamboo cabinetry and panels were also installed in the adjoining family room, along with aluminum doors with frosted glass and a repeat of the limestone at the newly designed fireplace. We Custom Built the Buffet Cabinet, for storage for entertaining items such as Fine China, Serving Pieces, Cutlery, Tablecloths, Napkins, Placemats, etc. The Buffet was built at a comfortable height for a Buffet Dinner or a place where serving pieces, can rest and not clutter up the round table. We went out of our way to stain the wood on the Buffet to be similar to the floor, so everything would blend in, to create a monochromatic scheme. All the light switches are on dimmers, so client can create whatever mood she desires.

This kitchen needed a facelift. The existing cherry cabinets were painted Valspar's "Safari Brown." The laminate countertops were replaced with Cambria's "Bradshaw" quartz. New linear hardware was added and a cut stone backsplash adds a fresh rustic look. The desk area features a cork backsplash (from remnants of cork flooring.) Other updates include LED undercabinet lighting on a motion timer, integrated USB chargers in the outlets and upper cabinet lighting with frosted glass.

A decorative space created within the kitchen area for display of family pieces. The backsplash is Walker Zanger Tuiileries blanc subway tile. The countertop is Bianco Antico granite. The arch valance mirrors the arched range hood. The cabinetry is graystone paint on maple wood. Crystal knobs are used on the wall cabinets and polished nickel handles on base cabinetry.
